POST 1000!!!

May furrowed a brow as she watched Aidan tossing and turning in her bed. “You poor thing.” she said quietly to herself as she put her hand on Aidan’s forehead. “I wish there was something I could do to help you my friend.”

May had basically neglected all her duties as curator of the shrine since Tristan brought Aidan to her.  Occasionally she would see to the odd guest and whatnot, but she always had someone sit with Aidan while she did. She didn’t want to leave her alone ever, just in case Aidan woke up and the unfamiliar surroundings startled her in anyway.  Most times though, she sat right where she was…in a chair beside Aidan’s bed.

“Thou hath become as a surrogate to our friend May?” Tristan asked as he appeared next to the bed beside them both.

“Huh?” May said surprised and standing up, “Yes…I suppose I have Maion.” She replied sadly. “Heaven knows she must be in turmoil inside.”

“Perhaps she is my friend, alas…we can not force our will upon her either.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” May asked rather bluntly.

“T’is Aidan’s choice she is where she now is no?” Tristan replied looking at Aidan with a perplexed face, “Mine Guardian could wake her easily, alas…”

“…alas, I will not do that May.” Jake said as he too appeared along with Mira. “She must chose her own path, her own way, it is her choice to make, not ours.”

“But she just seems sad…and so alone.” May retorted sadly.

“May?” Mira spoke compassionately, “She will never be truly alone as long as you are here my friend.” She added with a smile.

“It’s not the same thing.” May replied lowering her head slightly, “I just wish I could do more that’s all.”

“And I’m sure Aidan knows that as well.” Mira said as she put her hand on May’s shoulder and smiled once more.

“Guardian? Mira?” Tristan then asked slightly confused, “Why hath thou come my friends? I fear it to be more sad news.”

“No…no worse then already is.” Mira replied, “Alas…we must talk about Dekentor, and what we are going to do to help Kaze Tatsou Kori and his friends.”

Kori watched Lance, Kristen and Daemon carefully as they spoke, his attention only being broken by the sight of Nyx coming down the stairs to join them.

“Did I miss something?” Nyx asked noting the three stopped talking when she arrived beside them.

“No...not at all Nyx.” Lance replied, “I was just asking Kristen and Daemon to keep an eye on Kori and Kirin for a…”

“Lost your trust in me, have you My Lord?” Kori interrupted sarcastically as he approached the group.

“Not so much Kori.” Lance replied in a stern way, “But you and Kirin, and in particular you, have been through a rather rough time lately, and I wanted to…”

“To make sure I wouldn’t do anything stupid Lance?” Kori interrupted again.

“Yes!” Daemon retorted angrily, “Like constantly interrupting your King while he speaks.” He added with a slight glare.

“Alright...” Kristen spoke up, “that’s enough ok?”

“Agreed,” Nyx piped up as well, “Dekentor isn’t going to fall if we are at each others throats now is he?”

“No, I don’t suppose he is now is he.” Kori replied as he sat down in one of the chairs with a thud.

“Kori? My friend?” Lance began as he sat next to him, “You have to let her go for the time being Kori.”

“…”

“Your thoughts dwell with her, and you’re judgement is clouded, we can all see that clearly.”

“I will not forget her…ever,” Kori began in an angry tone, “and I swear, if you were not my King, I would …”

“You would do nothing!” Kristen said quickly as she held the Aura Sword next to Kori’s throat.

“Indeed you would have to kill me first as well.” Daemon interjected with fire in his eyes.

“I could have sworn we were all on the same side here.” Nyx said matter of factly, as she too sat down and watched her friends literally at each other’s throats.

With everyone stopping what they were doing and staring at Nyx, Commander Cùthalion entered the Inn, and walked over to the table where everyone was now sitting.

“Wow, why the long faces?” Jake quipped, “Who died?”

Kori stood with a start knocking over his chair, glared at Jake a moment, then quickly walked out the Inn door, as Lance just put his face in his palms.

“Nice.” Kristen said as she too glared at Jake.

“I’ll go after him.” Daemon said as he stood up, “Oh and Jake, timing is everything.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jake asked confused as he watched Daemon head out the door after Kori.

“What did I say?”

“…”

“…”

“…”

Sorry it's so short, I had a longer one in mind, but due to an extremely high fever...umm, excuse me whilst I go fall down now m'kay  :(

Post 563!!!

Though it hasn't explicitly been said anywhere recently, for the purposes of my post, I'm going to assume it's getting late (9:00pm ish).

"Look, guys." Kristen said, moving towards the middle of the room. "It's getting late. It's been a long day, and I expect tomorrow to be just as long, if not longer. We should hit the sack, get some rest for the planning we're doubtlessly going to be doing in the morning."

"What about Kori?" Nyx asked, glancing at the door.

"Let's let Daemon deal with him. He knows him as well as any." Kristen realized that she was still holding the sword, and sheathed it. She turned towards the stairs, but Lance called out to her before she could go.

"Kristen... A word, please." He said.

"My liege."

"I think it would be best for everyone if you were not so... quick to draw your weapon, especially since we are, as Nyx pointed out, all on the same side." Kristen turned red as she realized he was correct.

"I... um... My training... No, you're right. I offer my sincerest apologies, Your Majesty."

"Apologies accepted, Kristen. Now, I believe you had an appointment with your bed?" Lance smiled, and Kristen turned a bit redder.

"Er, yes. By your leave." Kristen walked to the stairs, and ascended them.

Kori sat on the highest sturdy branch he could find, feeling at that point more comfortable in the air than on the ground. He stared up at the waxing moon, which was a slight cresent. It would be full in a mere 8 days... But, not as though the Ancient One would see it. Nor any of the other drakes who lived on the mountain.

"I... I failed them. I failed them like I failed Aidan. Like I failed my King. Like I failed Kristen and the others."

A small bird flew past Kori, catching his attention for a moment. The bird looped around Kori once, and then landed on the branch next to him.

"You have a real habit of finding me, don't you, little birdie?" Kori growled at the bird. The bird cheeped, and nodded. "What do you want, anyway?"

Kori glanced up at the moon again, and suddenly felt the branch shift.

"Gah, how do you balance so well on this thing?!" Daemon said, swaying back and forth. Kori put a hand on the sprite's shoulder to steady him, and Daemon brushed it aside.

"I ask again. What do you want?"

"Mostly, I'm curious as to why you think you're a failure."

"They're all dead. Every last one of them. Dekentor is running around doing gods know what, and everyone hates me. Sounds like failure to me."

"Funny you should mention that. Hate is such a strong word. It's a lot closer to 'is concerned about' than anything. And, even if you were present for the events you mention, what would you have done about it?"

"I could have-"

"And, instead, you somehow raise an army of undead-killers, and help save the town twice over. You've done a lot of good, methinks."

"But, that doesn't bring the Ancient One back."

"Tell me, Kori. I was never good friends with that guy, but what would he say, if he were listening to you?"

"What? What are you talking about?"

"'blah blah blah failure blah blah couldn't help blah blah fail.' Are you suggesting that he would condone your whining and complaining?"

"No, but-"

"Or, do you have the audacity to suggest that he, a thousand-year-old-or-more drake was too weak to save himself? A whole clutch of drakes? Please. You wouldn't have made any difference. You'd have just gotten yourself killed."

Kori's jaw snapped shut, and he stared at the moon again. Daemon was right. The Ancient One would scold him for this, if he could. In fact, knowing him, he probably still could.

And, no, thinking logically, he wouldn't have stood a chance. If 40 or 50 drakes, many twice his age, couldn't stop Dekentor, then how could he?

"If we work together, Kori, we can stop him. We all know that, but do you?"

"..." Kori glanced at the moon again, and then nodded. "You're right. Besides, the legends of the Dark Lord say that he feeds on dark emotions such as hate, fear, sorrow... Let's not give him anything more to work with then we can!"

"There we go!"

"Thank you, Daemon. You've opened my eyes, and I realize how much of a jerk I've been. I'm sorry."

"Hey, Kori, don't sweat it. If you were perfect, you'd look more like me." Daemon grinned, and Kori pushed him off the branch. "Gah!"

Kori didn't hear him fall, though. Instead he saw a little bird fly up into the sky, back towards the town.

"Well, I guess I better make my way back too... I don't want to keep anyone waiting."

Kori stood up on the branch, and leapt off the tree. He landed heavily on his feet, and grunted.

"Ugh, I have to get used to that..."

Nyx took a swig from her mug, and threw one of her cards down onto the table.

"Heh, that the best you got?" One of the guards she was playing taunted. He threw a card ontop of Nyx's. The guard sitting next to him played, and it was Nyx's turn again.

"I guess I can't really fault you guys. I mean, you've never seen me play before."

"Well, we try not to take it too hard on newbies. Especially cute ones like you."

Nyx reclined in her chair, and took another drink from her mug.

"I've heard that before. But, let me tell you one thing about how I play." She leaned forward again. "I never bluff." Nyx threw her last card onto the table. It was the highest card, and she cleared her hand to boot.

Both guards gawked as Nyx swept the large pile of coins over to her part of the table.

"Care for another game?" She asked, smirking.

"Uh, well, I... I have to go on shift soon. I'll... um... We'll play again tomorrow."

"Yeah, uhm, me too. Shift. Soon." Both guards got up, and quickly exited the common room, almost running into Kori, who was coming in.

"Woah, watch it!" He admonished, and both guards quickly murmured apologies and left. Nyx looked up at the sound of his voice.

"Kori." She said, uninterested as she counted her winnings.

"Nyx, I'm sorry."

"Huh?" Nyx stopped what she was doing, and looked straight at Kori.

"I... I've been a jerk recently. And, I'm sorry."

"Who said you were a jerk? Did Daemon put you up to this?"

"Well, a little birdie told me." Nyx stared at him blankly. "Never mind. Is anyone else still up?"

"No, everyone else has gone to bed. It's nearly midnight, and I should probably be turning in too."

"Oh. Well... Um, has Daemon come back?"

"No, not as long as I've been here. Which has been since he left. He did talk to you then."

"Yeah, he knocked some sense into me."

"Well, I guess you can save your apologies until tomorrow morning, when we're gathering to have a big meeting."

"Ok..."

Kori had no sooner arrived at the top landing of the stairs, when a dimension Door opened and out walked Mira Cùthalion. “Kori, you must come with me right away my friend.” She said in a rather concerned voice. “It’s Aidan, I’m afraid…”

“AIDAN!!!” Kori interrupted quickly, “Mira, what’s happened? Tell me, what is it?”

As Mira was about to explain the situation, Lance and Daemon rushed out of their rooms to see what the yelling was about. “Lady Cùthalion.” Lance said with a slight bow, “What brings you here this night?”

“MIRA?!?” Kori interrupted again but even louder then before, “What’s happened to Aidan?”

Mira reached out and grabbed Kori’s hand and held it tightly and was about to speak when Kori pulled it back quickly and summoned his own Dimension Door “Aidan Dellcaine” he said, then stepped through as it vanished before everyone standing there.

“Mira?” Lance asked in a concerned voice, “What’s happened?”

“We believe…” Mira began sadly, “at least Maion believes that is, she is now dying My King.”

Lances face almost turned white at hearing that.  Not only for his concern for Aidan, but deep down, he immediately knew that news would destroy a lot of the morale within his army. Daemon just turned a face and slammed his door on his way back into his room, and this then brought Kristen to her door hurriedly…again, sword in hand.

“What’s going on?” Kristen asked looking around.

Lance just rolled his eyes and asked Mira to wait for him, informing her he wished to accompany her to Tristania.  Mira agreed, and as Lance closed his door Kristen began questioning Mira. When Mira was finished telling Kristen what was happening, Lance once again appeared in his doorway.

“Kristen” Lance said in an authoritative way, “You, Daemon and Jake keep things together until I return with Kori. That’s an order.”

“Yes my liege, but I was hoping I could go along with…”

“No. I’m sorry, but I need you here now more then ever.”

“Yes my liege.” Kristen replied sadly as she returned to her room, closing the door with a thud behind her.

“I’m ready.” Lance said to Mira.

Mira then summoned her D-door, and seconds later they arrived in Tristania, to find a weeping Kori, a pacing ‘chrono-mage’, and a very sombre Tristan Ravenheart.

“Mira, what exactly is happening anyway?” Lance asked noting the faces of the people in the room he was now standing in.

“She has developed an extremely high fever.  Abnormally high for one who was once an ice mage I might add.”

“…”

“Yes Lance…if it doesn’t return to normal soon, or at least drop drastically, Aidan will die this night.”

“NO!!!” Kori yelled as he overheard Mira speaking, “NO!!! I WILL NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!!”

“Kori, I’m so very sorry my friend, but there is little we can do.” Mira retorted sadly.

“GET OUT!!!” Kori then demanded as he stood up, “Everyone except Maion…LEAVE THIS ROOM NOW!!!”

“Listen you bloody drake.” Jake began, “Exactly who the hell do you think you’re…”

Tristan raising his hand quickly suddenly silenced Jake. “Leave us please.” He then asked.

“What?” Jake asked in an extremely upset tone, “You are joking right?”

“No Guardian, clearly I am not.” Tristan replied, “If you please?”

Jake left the room in a huff, followed by a perplexed Mira, and a very concerned King Lance.  May had left the room extremely upset earlier on, and was not present for any of this.

When the door closed, Kori turned to Tristan almost glaring, “Wake her.”

“I can not do that Kori.” Tristan replied compassionately.

“WAKE.HER.NOW.” Kori then demanded through gritted teeth as his eyes then turned a compete form of draconic.

Kori then suddenly fell to the ground grasping the sides of his head tightly.

“Thou means to do me ill will Kaze Tatsou Kori?” Tristan spoke rather surprised.

“NO.” Kori managed to reply through the pain, “I just want Aidan…I want her…to live…and be well.”

“Alas, I believist this to be true, but mine wards do sense otherwise.”

Kori held his head even tighter, and through the intense pain he was feeling managed to calm himself to a point where the pain began to subside.

“I would never harm you Milord…ever…but I do not wish to be without Aidan.” Kori said apologetically to Tristan, “There has to be something I…we can do Maion?”

Tristan extended his hand towards Kori and helped him to his feet, “Perhaps healing her body, but nothing can be done about her state of mind.”

“You sound like the Ancient one.” Kori replied sadly.

Tristan smiled, bowed his head slightly, then spoke very softly to Kori, “Verily, if thou cools her body, perhaps this will give her more time to decide what it is she wishes to do Kori.”

Kori smiled widely and walked over to Aidan and leaned over her, “I miss you so much Aidan…please…please come back.” He said teary eyed, as he put one hand on her head and one on her abdomen. “tsorf” he then said as Aidan’s entire body was then engulfed in a thin layer of cooling frost.

As Kori stood back up, he looked at Tristan and apologized for his previous actions.  Tristan was quick to accept it, and promised to do what ever he could for her.  Kori thanked him, and looking at Aidan one more time sadly, D-doored out of the room.

“Thou may enter now my friends.” Tristan spoke loudly.

Seconds later, everyone including May returned to the room.

“Where’s Kori?” Lance asked.

“He did not say where he was going my friend.” Tristan replied as he walked over to Aidan, “However, our friend is cooling rather quickly.” He added with a smile.

“Oh thank you Maion.” May said as she quickly ran to Aidan’s side.

“I did nothing May.” Tristan retorted, “T’was indeed Kaze Tatsou Kori who saved her this night.”

As everyone stood around smiling at the news, off in the distance, the unmistakable sound of a roaring drake echoed through the night sky…

"Do you understand?"

"I do, my Lord."

"Good. Go now. Do not fail me."

"I won't, my Lord."

"Kristen, what's the matter?"

It had been five days since the big meeting occurred. Though Kristen had wanted to postpone it since King Lance did not return from his impromptu trip with Kori until a late hour, he insisted that it go on. And, it did.

They all decided that their best course of action was to sit tight, and wait for their scouts and spies to return with information about the Dark Lord's army, specifically where it was. And, until then, they could do naught but train.

This, really, was the matter. Since Kristen's career started with the Dragoons, her job had been mostly field work; very little desk work, almost no routine tours of duty. But, now, here she was, commanding the dragoons, overseeing the troops, managing their resources.

"It's... nothing, Jake. Just a bit restless, that's all." She replied. They were standing at the top of the southern lookout tower, gazing out over the surrounding country-side. Well, what was left of it, anyway.

Since the army began moving in, more and more of the fields around the city were taken up for the army's camp. Lance had brought in more troops, and now their forces were in the thousands. Kristen wasn't sure, exactly, but it had to be thousands.

"Restless?" Jake leaned on the wooden railing next to her. "About what?"

"It's hard to explain... But, I wish I were out there, rather than being cooped up in here."

"Like, a common soldier?"

"What?! No, no no. Out there, a scout. A recruiter. Something that involved not sitting around all 'nice and safe' and stuff... I'm used to danger... travelling all day, and then pitching a tent to get a few hours of sleep before heading out again at dawn. Then, finally, arriving at my goal, and taking out a crazed wizard, or a mountain beast ravaging the country side..."

"You want to feel that you're actively doing something to save the world, is that it?"

"Yeah, exactly. I know that what I'm doing now is just as important, but... It's just not me."

"I understand. When we find out where Deke is, I'll let you ride at the head of the assault team. How's that?"

"Heh, ok. That's assuming I don't sneak out first to strike in the middle of the night by myself."

"Ok, duly noted." Jake said, smiling.

They spent a few minutes looking out at the road extending from the town's walls, before they noticed a cloud of dust at the horizon. In a few moments, they could make out a lone rider galloping towards the town. Shortly, the gate opened, and a few guards rode out to meet the rider.

Kristen and Jake watched the guards exchange a few words with the rider, and then all three began riding towards the gate once more.

"Uh oh, this doesn't look good." Jake said, moving towards the ladder.

"No kidding. See you downstairs!" Kristen replied, taking a running leap off the tower. She landed on her feet, and made her way to the gate. Jake followed as fast as he could, and they all arrived just in time to meet the rider.

"Commanders! I bring urgent news for our Majesty!" The rider said, giving a quick salute.

"Joseph! My ears are as good as our liege's, if it is as important as it sounds!"

"Very well, sir. An army is massing three days ride to the north! They are flying the banner of the Dark Lord, and they've got some sort of construction going on."

"The Dark Lord?! Here?!" Kristen exclaimed, eyebrows arched. "We need to mobilize, and fast. We don't want to let them march right up to us."

"Kristen, hold. We have fortifications here. If we fight a battle, we'll be at an advantage here."

"But, at what cost?" Kristen said, folding her arms. "We've seen this town burn once already, and we're still patching it up from that. If we fight a battle here, it'll be as good as gone. I'm not saying we won't, ever, but this should be our last resort."

"Hmm..."

"She's right, Commander." Joseph said, hopping off his horse. "In addition, speed is of the essence. If we wait here, the Dark Lord has all the time in the world to gather as much might as he wants. But, if we move out and strike first, we might be able to disrupt his plans."

"Joseph... You've been my most trusted scout for a long time, and for a reason. Do you know the nature of this construction? Is it a barracks, or...?"

"I do not. I am lucky to have gotten away knowing what I do. I was discovered by a group of Death Knights, and I barely got away."

"Hmm..."

"But, I can say that we want to stop them before it's complete."

"Kristen, how long would it take to mobilize the troops?" Jake asked, pondering.

"About six hours, if I sent out the order now. Maybe as low as four, if we hustle."

"Ok, send out the word. I want us to be moving by sun down. I will bring Joseph, and talk to the others."

"Ok, consider it done!" Kristen ran off.

"Jake, what's going on?!" Lance demanded.

"Apparently news travels faster than those making it, my liege." Jake said, wryly. "The Dark Lord's army has been sighted three days to the north, and we're moving for a preemptive strike."

"... A preemptive strike?"

"Apparently, they're building something, though we don't know what. Certainly, it would be bad if it were to be completed."

"Fair enough, but I think it may have been wiser to consult me first."

"Your Majesty, I would, but based on the information gathered by my scouts, I felt that literally ever second counted."

At that moment, Illyas and Nyx slammed open the front door of the inn, and quickly walked in.

"What the hell is going on?" Nyx demanded. She noted Lance's presence, and added "Commander." as a quick afterthought.

"What the hell is going on down there?" Daemon said, appearing at the top of the stairs in response to Nyx's entry.

"..."

"..."

"..."

"We're hunting the Dark Lord. Get ready to move by sun down." Jake said, frowning. "And, Nyx, I think the word you're looking for is 'restraint'."

Edit: Fixed the direction of the Dark Lord's army.

A cloaked and hooded woman darted through the trees, racing across hilly terrain. A tree ten metres to her left exploded as a dark bolt collided with the bark. She sped up and veered off to the right. Glancing over her shoulder, she noted her companion was starting to slow down. She couldn't blame him, they had been running for (what she estimated to be) almost an hour straight. Her hand reached out, grabbed his and pulled him along and she weaved to the left. Three dark bolts shot just over their heads. She flinched.

"Can't you cast something?" She yelled, evading a tree. He slowed and stretched out his free hand, mumbling something she didn't catch. A thick, cold fog filled the trees behind them, practically whiting out the whole forest and the attackers. Unearthly screeches went up as the undead lost themselves in the fog.

She breathed heavily, crouching forward to rest her hands on her knees. She pulled her hood off her head and let her waist-length dark hair fall around her. Her brown eyes sparkled a little purple in the light. Kegan grinned and fall back on the grass.

"I can't believe that actually worked."

Thalaas pulled the hood off his head and shook out his cloak. "The spell won't last long, we need to keep moving."

Kegan shrugged and held out her hands. Thalaas pulled her to her feet. "We're pretty close to Port Lovis anyway. That's what we get for going with the scouts."

Thalaas waited for Kegan to start jogging before following after her. "But it does seem a little lax of Rouge to let us join them, he must of known we'd try to escape."

Kegan didn't reply for a while. Then responded, "Rouge has been acting a little strange recently." They jogged on.

--@--

Sometime later, Kegan watched the action around the gate at Port Lovis from up in a tree. Thalaas was lazing on a more stable branch within arm's reach. Kegan sighed heavily as more soldiers marched out and supply wagons left the gate.

"We'll never get a break at this rate," she muttered. "Plus, I haven't seen Aidan come out at all."

"Ah yes, that reminds me," Thalaas glanced at Aidan's twin, "what exactly is your plan?"

Kegan was silent for a long minute. "Now that you mention it, I don't really have one."

Thalaas rolled his eyes. "How about I stay here, while you break in and try and find Aidan." He stifled a yawn.

Kegan bit her lip, but nodded. A few more moments passed before she jumped down from the branch and crouched by the trunk.

"Wish me luck," she murmured and stood up, hood over face and strode quickly towards the gate.

"Oi! Who the hell-" A guard moved to stop her, but she dodged him and twirled away from the second guard. Taking two steps up the side of a wagon she leapt through the gate over the heads of the passing soldiers. She landed awkwardly and stumbled. Soldiers and guards around her were drawing weapons. Kegan, twisted ankle and all, set off in a sprint, evading people left and right. Not looking where she was running, she collided with a barrel and cursed, trying to get her bearings straight. When she did, she found a short sword pointed at her throat. Looking up the sword and to the person holding it she found herself staring at grey-eyed woman obviously very comfortable with her swordsmanship. The woman was frowning.

"Just where do you think you're going, Kingdom of Darkness scum?" Nyx said harshly. Kegan noticed as others started gathering around, some faces she recognised, but she couldn't find Aidan's.

"Kingdom of Darkness? Oh!" Kegan said amicably, "it's the cloak, isn't it? Confuses everyone at first."

She pulled the hood off her head and flicked her out from under the cloak.

"My name is Kegan Dellcaine, I'm looking for my sister, Aidan."

"Thank you again Mira." Kori said as he continued walking towards the door.

"My pleasure my friend." Mira retorted kindly, "You are always more then welcome here and you know that Kaze Tatsuo Kori."

"Yes...and I always will remember that as well."

"And so you should." Mira said with a smile, "send for us if you the need should arise my friend."

"I will." Kori said with a bow, "Aida..."

"Snow?" Mira interrupted with a slight glare.

"You did listen when I spoke no?"

"Yes Mira..." Kori replied lowering his head slightly, "Port Lovis." He then added as his Dimension Door opened and he stepped through. Mira smiled as he did, and once the door closed, she wore a trouble brow as she pondered his plight.

***

Kori reappeared just outside the Inn in Port Lovis...just in time to see Kirin and Kristen heading towards the North Gate quickly with several of the Shadow Warriors in tow.

"Well it's about time you showed up." Kristen said harshly, "Dekentor's army is moving this way, and Aidan's sister showed up looking for her according to the report Nyx sent me."

"Aidan's sister?" Kori asked astonished.

"Yeah, come with us." Kirin answered, as Kristen was now at least five paces ahead of them, "we're going to see Kegan now."

Kori quickly followed and in moments they arrived to see King Lance and Daemon basically interrogating the newly arrived Kegan, with Nyx and several guards looking like they were poised for anything that might occur.

"Ok, so let me get this straight then, "Daemon said, "you're Aidan's..."

"Aidan?" Kori asked loudly as soon as he was close enough to see Kegan.

Everyone stopped talking and turned to look at Kori when they heard his voice. The blank expression on his face however, told everyone what he was thinking without a doubt.

As Kori slowly walked closer to Kegan, the more he realized she was in fact not Aidan after all as he initially thought.

"Snow." Kegan said quickly, "They don't believe who I am. Will you tell them please."

Kori stared at Kegan when she used that name, as did everyone else.

"Kori?" Lance demanded, "You know this woman?"

"No My Lord," Kori began, "I have never met this person ever, but I can tell you she is not lying to us."

"Oh?" Kristen asked somewhat surprised as she was eyeing Kegan very carefully, "And you know this how exactly?"

"Her body temperature is not changing." Kori replied, "she is telling the truth Kristen."

"Yes, I am Kegan Dellcaine...I am Aidan's twin sister, and I know you Snow because Aidan and I would talk about you all the time before all this other stuff started happening." Kegan said in her defence, "Do you know where she is Snow?"

"Yes...I do, but I can't say that I..."

"Then take me to her quickly, and she and I will explain all this to you."

"Very well." Kori replied as he continued to stare at her, "Come with me then."

"STOP!!!" Lance demanded, "I believe I am still in charge here...and I will not have you leaving again, especially with Dekentor's army on his way here now."

"Nyx...Kirin...muster the Shadow Warriors immediately." Kori demanded, "And My King...with all the doubt's I see within you now, I swear to you, this woman is not telling a lie to us."

Daemon rolled his eyes and turned around in a huff as Quinn, Ravi, Illyas and Jake arrived. Kristen then walked over to Kori and got right in his face gritting her teeth, "Please tell me you actually know what the hell you are doing?"

"That I do Knight." He replied flatly, "I believe she is who she claims to be."

"Fine then." Kristen retorted, "Captain Bellew!" she added in a commanding voice.

Seconds later the Captain ran up to her, "Commander?"

"Have a squad of archers accompany Kori and his guest everywhere and anywhere they go." She commanded, "and I mean...everywhere."

"It shall be done Commander." He replied with a bow.

Kristen then turned and looked at Lance waiting for some form of acknowledgment. He only nodded, then turned around and joined Daemon.

"Don't be long, understood?" Kristen said as she glared at Kori.

"Understood." Kori replied as politely as he could through his hidden anger at how Kristen was talking, "...knight."

"Good." Kristen retorted as she too joined Lance and Daemon and their discussion.

"Nyx" Kori said, "You and Kirin have the Shadow Warriors until I return."

"Understood Commander." Nyx replied with a slight smile.

"Ok Kegan...let's go then." Kori said as he started walking towards the gate, "I'm going to portal us to Aidan now."

"I left something in the trees over there I need to get first though ok?" Kegan asked trying desperately to hide her nervousness.

"Very well." Kori replied as he and the archer squad followed her as she slowly started walking towards Thalaas who was still hiding in the trees.

"Commander! How goes the preparation?" Lance asked, approaching Jake with Daemon in tow.

"Excellent, Sire. We will be ready to march in under two hours." Jake said, sweeping his hand at all the hustle and bustle around them.

"Very good. Do we have any scouts out?" Lance inquired.

"Scouts?" Jake asked, curious. "Yes, all over."

"I mean, around the town? We've... got information indicating that there may be some of the Dark Lord's forces in the immediate area of the town."

"Around the town? No, sire. The Dragoons are patrolling from the sky, but that's it. I shall order some sent out to canvass the surrounding area, Your Majesty." Jake whistled shrilly, and a page quickly materialized. "Boy, find the scout Joseph. Quickly! He should be in the common room of the inn!"

"Yes, sir!" The boy ran off towards the inn, and was quickly lost in the crowd.

"Where did we find this information?" Jake asked, turning back to the pair.

"We had a visit from Kori today. Nearly forgot what he looked like..." Daemon grumbled. "Coincidentally, someone claiming to be Aidan Dellcaine's sister appeared. She seemed to know Kori, but he did not know her. She was wearing the emblem of the Dark Lord."

"What?! Where is she being held?" Jake demanded.

"She isn't. Kori took her to see Aidan. She says she's on our side, and Kori believes her for some reason." Daemon was almost scowling at this. "Kristen gave them an... 'escort', which will hopefully prevent any disaster."

"Hmm..." Jake crossed his arms and pondered this for a few moments.

"Sirs!" A voice said, behind Jake, prompting him to turn around. "You summoned me?" It was Joseph.

"We've got trouble, Joseph." Jake said, frowning. "I need to lead a scouting party to check out the area surrounding the town, and quick. We think we've got some of the Dark Lord's men lurking about out there. You're the best we've got."

"Ah... I think that is unnecessary. Why would the Dark Lord send anyone near us? It would be a quick way to get them killed."

"The same reason you were near their camp: To gather intel. Well, we need more intel. That's your job, and I won't hear any protesting."

"Very well, Commander. Though I don't expect to find anything, I will scour the area." Joseph gave a salute to Jake, and quickly ran off in the general direction of the stables.

"Commander," Lance said, frowning. "Are all of your men as disrespectful as that?"

"My Liege! What kind of question is that? But, no. Not at all. Usually, he isn't either. I do not know what's wrong. Perhaps he is still shocked with encountering the undead so personally."

"Perhaps. Very well then. As you were." Jake nodded, and was about to walk away when he felt a tap on his arm.

"Um... Commander?" Quinn was standing there, biting her lip. "I need to tell you something."

"Yes, Quinn? What is it?" Jake said, impatiently.

"He's lying. I overheard the conversation, and he's not as he seems."

"What do you mean?" Jake said, giving Quinn a funny look. Lance and Daemon just stood silently.

"He... is not as loyal as he seems. I can feel it."

"I find it hard to believe you. I've trusted Joseph for years, and he's never failed me yet."

"I... I don't know what to say, except that you should not trust him."

"Well, I will think on it."

"Thank you, Jacob. By your leave, I must help Ravi out." Quinn quickly ran off, and vanished into the mass of people around them.

"... What's her problem, anyway?" Jake muttered to himself.

"Jake, are you going to act on her words?" Lance asked.

"What? No, of course not. I have no reason to doubt him."

"I'm sorry, I must be getting older." Lance said, wryly. "We humans, as we age, tend to lose our hearing. I think I heard you say 'I'm going to send a scout after him, just to be safe.' Was that correct?" Lance glared at Jake, who received the message.

"... Yes sir, that is correct." Jake saw Kristen running by, and he waved her over.

"Jake, Daemon, Your Majesty." Kristen said, nodding to each in turn.

"Kristen, find Nyx, and have her send a pair of Shadow Warriors after Joseph. They are to remain hidden at all costs, and are to observe him. If he shows any signs of treachery, I need to find out as soon as possible."

"What- no, I'll find her and tell her."

"Thank you."

What was Dellcaine doing here? She was supposed to be safe at the camp?

Thoughts rushed through Joseph's head as he rode out from the gate. He heard bits and pieces of conversation on his way out, and what he learned did not make him happy.

Her presence would be more than enough to set the town on edge, especially if she really is defecting, and they sent the Knights to hunt her down...

As he rode, he wasn't really paying much attention to his surroundings, and the road led straight into the forest. Soon, he was deep inside, but he still didn't notice.

I don't think she'd ever seen me, so she can't blow my cover... Grr, what the hell is going on?!

Suddenly, his horse stopped dead. Joseph was nearly thrown forward, and he was a bit dazed from it. So, when his horse then reared up, he fell off like a sack of potatoes.

"Argh! What the hell is gotten into you?!" Joseph said, picking himself up off the ground, dusting himself off.

"Joseph." A cold voice said from behind him. Joseph silently cursed himself at his misfortune. He slowly turned around, and was face to face with three Death Knights.

"Hello. You know, there are better ways of getting my attention." Joseph said, feigning confidence. Though his position with the Dark Lord himself gave him rank over these undead warriors, their presence was enough to send chills up his spine.

"Perhaps, but this way was most painful, and thus most amusing. We were not expecting you just yet."

"I blame this on you, you know. They've grown suspicious since that Dellcaine girl showed up."

"She escaped our clutches, but that is none of your business."

"I think it is, since I'm out here trying to find the evil that chased her all the way here."

"What is the status of the camp?"

"They're packing up as we speak. They intend to march by sun-down."

The Death Knight began to laugh at this. His laugh, which sounded more like a tuberculosis patient, made Joseph shiver.

"They want to march at night? They must be daft." Another Knight said.

"I told them that we were vulnerable, and they had a chance of crippling us. They intend to test that theory."

"Ha. Good work. Our Lord will be pleased to face them."

"What should I do now?" Joseph asked.

"You will head back, and tell them that you found a few skeletons, which you quickly dispatched. Crisis averted."

"Ok. Oh, um... Here, I made a list of their army, broken down into troop categories." Joseph reached into his pocket, and withdrew a couple pages. "I wonder, they have many elite forces. It seems as though they might actually have a chance at victory..."

The Death Knight laughed again.

"You really do not know what our Lord has commissioned? The structure at the very center of our encampment?"

"... No."

"Ha ha, chosen by the Dark Lord, I see. Well, you'll soon find out. We will destroy them, and they will have no say in the matter!"

Kristen came rushing up, startling Nyx from her precarious perch against a wall. Standing up straight she looked down into Kristen face expecting a reprimand for sitting back and watching the goings on.

“Nyx, I’m glad I found you. It was told to ask you to send a pair of shadow warriors after Joseph.”

Nyx looked at her slightly perplexed, “Joseph, as in the scout that found the army and warned us to begin these ridiculous preparations?”

“The very one. Something suspicious may be going on with him and we really need you to set a tail on him. Fast.”

“Done. Where ever he goes he’ll have a dark and shadowy tail. In fact, I think Kirin and myself shall accompany the warriors. I don’t want to take any chances; do you think we could figure out a signal in case something does go wrong?”

Kristen looked at Nyx, “Perhaps you could just send Kirin back here. I’ll spread the word that if someone sees a  drake landing in the center of town then they should drop whatever they are doing and come find a commanding officer or someone who knows where we are.”

“Perfect. Ciao then.”

“Ciao?” Kristen shook her head, “Be safe Nyx, we still need you.”

“Aye aye, Captain.”

Nyx smiled as she trotted away from a slightly perplexed Kristen. As she jogged towards the entrance of the city she spotted Kirin and veered towards her.

“Hey Kirin, saddle up, we have to move out.” Looking past her at two of the warriors that she and Kirin oversaw, she nodded at them to get their gear together.

“Looks like we’re tracking the tracker. Joseph may be up to some bad juju, so we need to go and find out what he’s up to.”

The girls began walking towards the city gates, exiting with a backwards wave towards the gate guards. As they got out into the woods beyond the gates they spotted their warriors trailing close by.

Kirin leaned in towards Nyx, “So what do you think. Could this guy really be a spy? It just seems a little out of character, especially for someone who Jake trusts enough to send out to see what exactly is going on with our enemies.”

“Don’t you see though, if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. If Jake sends out this tracker to figure out what’s going on with our enemies, who’s to say that he hasn’t already been compromised. He came back telling us that they were mobilizing for battle and we needed to get our asses in gear. I find that highly suspect, but if the king says jump, I ask how high, and that has nothing to do with our history…”

Nyx looked away from Kirin, blushing slightly.

Kirin lightly touched her friends arm, “I understand my friend, it’s hard when the person we love can order us around. It hurts even more when they are no longer there though.”

Nyx looked over at Kirin, a curious, questioning  look in her eyes. But instead of questioning her friend she decided it would be wise let it drop and instead Nyx glanced back at the warriors following behind them and motioned to the warriors to join them. As they got closer she opened her mouth to speak with them when all of a sudden she saw movement up ahead. Stopping quietly and slowly circling around the clearing where Joseph and two darkly cloaked men stood, or well, at least the men stood seeing as Joseph was still trying to get up off the ground

"Argh! What the hell is gotten into you?!" They heard Joseph say as he picked himself up off the ground.

"Joseph." A cold voice said from one of the cloaked men.

"Hello. You know, there are better ways of getting my attention." Joseph said, feigning confidence.

The laughter that came out of the cloaked men was like death had been warmed over and was laughing.
"They want to march at night? They must be daft." Another one said.

The cloaked man laughed again.

"You really do not know what our Lord has commissioned? The structure at the very center of our encampment?"

"... No."

"Ha ha, chosen by the Dark Lord, I see. Well, you'll soon find out. We will destroy them, and they will have no say in the matter!"

And with that Nyx sent her warriors on the attack. They both dodged in fast enough that neither Nyx nor Kirin could follow. Unfortunately it seemed as though the cloaked men could. As soon as they got outside of the tree line the, men were moving. Joseph scrambled back towards his horse presumably attempting to ride off before anyone noticed that he had gone. Kirin went after Joseph, quickly intercepting him and knocking him off his horse again. In nearly a blink of an eye he was on the ground with Kirin perched on top of him like a bird, and he trussed up like a pig. Nyx glanced at them and then took off after the cloaked men and her warriors.

“Kirin, watch him, I’ll send one of the boys back if I need you.” She yelled over her shoulder.

Suddenly the cloaked men stopped turned around, whipped their cloaks off and took up their own fighting stances.

Crap, crap, crap, she thought, I can’t believe they’re Death Knights, this is so not cool!

Nyx took off running, dodging around trees and over the underbrush in attempts at circling the largest Knight. He watched her progress and spun presenting her with a sword aimed at her stomach as she leapt from the tree nearest him. Twisting sharply, she landed hard on her side, the rocks and branches bruising up and down her ribs and leg. Rolling over she saw the Knight coming towards her, sure that if she didn’t move she would be toast, she leapt up and dashed to a more covered area. Glancing back at the warriors, they seemed to have the upper hand with the smaller Knights, so she focused on getting into a better position to fight the Knight currently pursuing her. Breaking into an open space she spun awaiting the Knight to come charging after her.

She waited…

And waited…

And waited…

Finally, after a sufficiently excessive amount of time, she assumed that he’d taken off so she cautiously made her way out of the clearing. Looking around, she didn’t see anything, just green, green, and more green. So she carefully picked her way back towards where she originally began her fight with the Death Knight. As she walked into the clearing though, a sense of deep foreboding came over her and as she spun, she felt a dagger slice right through her side, nearly missing going straight into her belly. It appeared that one of the two Knights that her warriors had been dispatching hadn’t completely died yet. Nyx stumbled and fell to a knee.

“Kirin, boys, one of you please answer me!” Nyx yelled, holding onto her side. She could feel the warm, slick blood ooze between her fingers. “Please help me!”

Kirin came running up, the warriors in tow with a terrified looking Joseph thrown over ones shoulder.

“Oh god, Nyx. No, no, we have to get you back to the camp. You, kill him and then grab two of their cloaks.”

The one without the burden promptly killed the remaining Knight, collected two of the cloaks, ripped up one to tie around Nyx’s waist and the other to create a modified sling. Kirin rushed towards the largest opening that they could see in the immediate area and changed into her drake form. After instructing the warriors to ensure that Joseph got back to the town in one piece, she picked up the ends of Nyx’s sling in her claws and took off towards town, going as fast as possible without jostling Nyx too badly. With the utmost care, as soon as she got inside the city walls she headed towards the inn, gently laying Nyx down on the ground before it.

Transforming back, she started yelling, “Someone, please come help me! Ravi, Daemon, someone, help!”

“Oh god, no!” was all that Kirin heard before Nyx began to scream.

"Um," Kegan spun around, smiling innocently, "do you mind staying right here just for a moment... my friend's shy and I don't want you to freak him out."

Kori eyed her suspiciously, but signalled for the archers to stop. Kegan turned on her heel and ran up to the bushes where they were previously hiding. Thalaas was lazing on the grass at the base of a tree, half-asleep. Kegan shook him by the shoulders. He woke with a start and stared at her. She shook him again.

"Disguise. Now," she hissed. He opened his mouth to question her, but Kegan cut him off. "Kori. Soldiers. Taking us to Aidan. Disguise. Now!"

Kegan stood up and walked back to squad, swiping a leaf from her hair. She smiled fakely as Thalaas ran a hand through long dark hair, obviously not his.

"Ah, this is my-" Kegan began.

"Brother." Thalaas cut in. Kori looked sceptical.

"Half... brother. Aidan's and my...half-brother, Danian." Kegan glanced at Thalaas, who nodded. Kori frowned, but didn't say anything. Kori muttered something under his breath and opened a Dimension Door. Kegan looked between the portal and Kori.

"This goes... where?"

"Tristania. Where Aidan is," Kori explained patiently and motioned for them to move it. Kegan closed her eyes as she stepped through and opened them in a street in, what she assumed was, Tristania. She spun around and was glad to see "Danian" and Kori (plus a bunch of soldiers that she wasn't glad to see) follow after her. Kori dispelled the spell and marched up to a building. He knocked then opened the door.

"May? Are you here?"

--@--

"She's awake?!" Kori exclaimed, looking at May in disbelief. Kegan looked between the two, perplexed. She frowned.

"You mean, she wasn't supposed to be?" Kegan questioned.

May glanced Kegan, but ignored the question. "Yes, she's awake, but she's still gaining strength. I'll see if she's willing to have any visitors."

May turned and went up a flight of stairs. Kegan turned on Kori.

"What the hell is going on here?" she hissed. Kori was about to reply, when Thalaas turned around, setting five mugs down on the table.

"Tea?" he asked innocently. Kegan and Kori both paused, but picked up a cup each. Kegan took a sip, then swore.

"You could have warned me it was still hot," she grumbled. Danian gave her a sceptical look.

"What were you expecting?"

All three looked up as May came back down the stairs. She paused on the stairs and smiled apologetically.

"She's willing to see you, but only Kegan for now."

Kegan placed the mug down and smirked slightly at Kori who glared in return. Aidan's twin bounced up the stairs following May. At the top of the stairs, May indicated the door to Kegan and Kegan nodded thanks to her. May smiled and went back downstairs again. Kegan paused at the door. This would be the first time in five years that they would really be together. Kegan bit her lip in nervousness, then shook her head of the ridiculous thoughts. This was her sister! She shouldn't be nervous. Kegan knocked then pushed the door opened.

Aidan was sitting on the bed, fiddling with the covers scrunched around her. Kegan grinned suddenly and flew at her sister, wrapping her in a bear hug. Aidan gave a muffled laugh and returned the hug. Kegan eventually let go and sat on the bed next to Aidan.

"It's so amazing, seeing you again," Kegan said giddly. Aidan laughed and twirled some of Kegan's hair around her fingers, slowly braiding it.

"Shouldn't I be the one saying that?"

Kegan shrugged happily. "Does it matter? As long as someone says it."

They sat, reunited, chatting for sometime before there was a hesitant knock on the door.

"Come in," Aidan called out, still putting more braids in Kegan's hair, who was now sprawled on the bed, her head in Aidan's lap. Kori pushed the door opened, but didn't enter. Aidan froze, then smiled tentatively. Kegan looked between the two, before sitting up.

"I guess you guys want some alone time," she moved past Kori and called over her shoulder as she left, "I'll be downstairs, just call me if you need anything, Aides."

Kori glared at Kegan as she went down the stairs, then slowly turned his head back around to see Aidan sitting up, and staring at the floor beside her bed.

“She doesn’t like me very much does she?” he asked rather rhetorically as he closed the door and slowly started walking towards Aidan.

“Heh…she likes you just fine Snow.” Aidan replied softly, still looking at the floor of course, “she’s just being really overprotective right now, that’s all.”

“Apparently so…” Kori began, “When was the last time you saw her anyway?” he added now standing directly in front of her.

“May tells me you spent a lot of time here Kori?” Aidan asked in reply, “And you have an army of your own now?”

Kori grinned and got down on his knees in front of Aidan trying to see her face again. Reaching out he gently grabbed one of her hands and held it, “Do you always answer questions with a question my friend?” he asked with a wide grin.

“Sometimes.” Aidan replied as she slowly raised her head and looked in Kori’s eyes, “And the new attire is interesting as…”

“Your hands are warm.” Kori interrupted, “Are you feeling alright?”

“Yeah, I’m fine”, Aidan began, “it’ll just take some time Snow.”

“I could channel some …”

“No” Aidan interrupted him with a kind smile, “it’s ok…I think I’ll just let it happen on it’s own.”

“As you wish.” Kori replied as his smile slowly faded, “I missed you Aid…”

Kori’s words were silenced by the presence of Aidan’s fingers on his lips. She then simply smiled wide-eyed at him, and said nothing more.  Kori nodded in acknowledgement, and stood still holding her hand.

“I was wondering if you would like to see something…” Kori began but was interrupted by a Dimension-Door opening not 5 feet away from him. Seconds later, Mira walked trough it and looked at Aidan.

“You’re looking better.” She asked smiling.

Aidan returned the smile “Thank you Mira, and I feel a bit better too.”

“Good, I’m happy to hear that.” Mira retorted kindly.

Kori looked at Mira puzzled, then Aidan, then Mira again, and finally Aidan again.

“Yes Snow, we’ve met already.” Aidan said with one of her coy little smiles.

“…”

“Kori.” Mira interjected the awkward moment ever so skilfully, “You are needed in Port Lovis right away my friend…things are not good right now.”

Kori released Aidan’s hand and inquired to Mira promptly.

“Dekentor, as you know, has his army camped close to there as we speak. If he were to advance that army, your friends would no doubt need you Kaze Tatsou Kori.”

Kori looked at Aidan sadly.  Aidan just smiled and nodded slightly and told him to go. Nodding in reply to her, he quickly headed for the door, “Meet me down stairs Mira.” He said as he bolted down the stairs in haste.

“You’re with me.” Kori said to the archers when he arrived on the bottom step, “We have to go back to Port Lovis right away.”

“What’s wrong?” Kegan asked seemingly slightly concerned.

“There is a possibility they could be attacked very soon.”

“dammit…” Kegan replied as she then noticed Aidan and an Elvish women helping her walk down the stairs.

“Kori?” Aidan asked.

Kori rushed back to the stairs, but not before Kegan all but pushed him aside to beat him there. Gently holding her other arm, Kegan lead her sister to Kori.

Aidan approached slowly, and gently pulled her arms away from Mira and Kegan, and put them around Kori compassionately, “Please be careful. And we’ll see each other again soon…I promise you.” She said.

Kori returned the embrace just as compassionately and once again, whispered in her ear softly.

“Heh…I’ve heard that before Snow.” Aidan said sheepishly.

Kori blushed slightly, then stepped back away from Aidan and summoned his D-Door “sivol troP”

Kori motioned for the archers to enter, and while looking at Aidan one last time, stepped through as the portal closed.

“Hmm…when did he learn how to do that?” Aidan asked Mira in a very surprised tone.

“While trying to find a way to help you my friend.” Mira replied with a semi sad gaze.

“Oh…” Aidan responded as she felt Kegan grabbing her arm once again.

“Some tea Aide?” Kegan asked trying to lighten the mood.

“Yes please…” Aidan replied sitting, as she looked at Mira and Mira’s ever-growing concerned look.

“Mira?” Aidan then asked, “Can you tell me what's happened to Snow since I was away

Mira nodded and walked over and sat beside Aidan sighing deeply.

Nyx woke up in a dark room shivering. She was covered with sweat, the sheet and blankets were sticking to her skin, but she had broken out in goose bumps, and was shaking all over. With each convulsion though it felt like the knife that had slit open her side was slicing through her over and over again. She groaned and rolled over onto her good side, gasping through the pain as the wound and skin stretched and began to split. She stopped moving as she put her hand over the bandage wrapped around her middle and groaned softly again. She just lay there, staring at the wall until she saw light spill in from the door opening.

“Nyx, are you awake?”

Nyx started to roll back over but stopped as she felt a stitch pop.

“Yea, but I can’t roll over. Kirin, is that you?” She twisted her neck and head up so she could try and see behind her but Kirin made it easy on her and leaned her head over.

“What are you doing? You should be lying on your back, not twisting around like a fish on a hook.” Kirin said, looking down at Nyx’s pale, pain lined face.

Kirin gently placed her hand on the bandage and pressed on it while she helped Nyx roll back over on her side. Ravi walked in a few minutes later with a bowl of water, several strange looking items, and more bandages. He placed the items on a small table by the bed and walked over to Nyx.

“So you’re awake. That’s a good sign. I was beginning to think that you wouldn’t wake. You took quite a wound there miss, and you lost a lot of blood. You were quite touch and go for a while.”

“Gee, do you have this kind of bedside manner with all of your patients. It’s positively thrilling, just makes me want to jump out of bed and do a jig because my doctor was so inspiring.” Sarcasm positively dripped from her voice and her eyes glared daggers at Ravi.

Kirin stepped up and poked Nyx in the head.

“You are not allowed to make disparaging remarks towards him. He did his damnedest to keep your sorry butt alive. Now apologize!”

“I’m sorry Ravi, I know you meant well… I’m just not really on top of my game at the moment and it makes me irritable.”

Nyx spoke to Ravi without taking her eyes of Kirin. Pain lay in the depths of Nyx's eyes, pain reserved strictly for her. Kirin flinched as she saw her near future in Nyx’s eyes, turned, and walked towards the door.

“Kirin, if you leave me here by myself, I really will hurt you. Come back here.”

Nyx watched as Kirin glanced out the door and then slowly and reluctantly she turned and made her way back towards the bed. She looked down at her friends face with a mixture of wariness and concern. Then she looked at the wound that had just been unwrapped and gagged. The edges around the cut were puckered and black with dead tissue, the stitches cutting into the dead flesh; probably spreading more infection, Kirin thought. She looked back at Nyx’s face and was surprised to see pain and fear flash across it.

“How bad is it?” Nyx asked as she turned her head away from her wounded side.

Before Kirin had the chance to answer, Ravi ripped the rest of the bandage off and looked intently at Nyx.

“Nyx, I’m afraid it’s not good.” Ravi said as Nyx sighed and groaned resignedly.

“There is infection, a great deal of infection. I’m going to have to cut most of it away, and you shouldn’t feel it, but just in case I want Kirin to hold you down so I don’t accidentally gouge you in the wrong place when you twitch.”

Ravi reached into a little bag he had brought in earlier and pulled out a scalpel and a pair of either small tongs or large tweezers. As he continued to pull out more and more items, Kirin rounded the bed and crawled onto it so that she could kneel at Nyx’s other side. Once Ravi had taken all of his things out of his bags and got them ready for use and he looked up at Kirin expectantly.

“My dear I need you to lean over her and pin down her hips and chest. If her torso moves at all then she could be history. Oh and Nyx, please place this in your mouth and hold onto the headboard.”

Nyx did as she was told and got ready for the pain. Kirin smiled reassuringly at her friend then leaned over to rest her forearms in the appropriate places. Then Ravi began to work. Unfortunately for Nyx, she felt nearly every slice that his scalpel made as it scraped away the dead skin. Only through sheer force of will was Kirin able to keep her down and from shifting too much. When all was said and done, Kirin sat up and stretched her back. Leaning bent over like that was killing her back, but Ravi seemed to be having the same problem so she didn’t feel so annoyed at the pain.

“Hey Ravi, let’s not do that again. I don’t know if I can handle another torture session like that.”

Kirin laughed a little at the humor that Nyx desperately tried to throw into her voice. She stood up and walked around back to the side of the bed that Ravi was on and almost gagged again. The wound no longer had the black skin around the opening, but now it was a livid red and there seemed to be black something growing or oozing inside of it. Kirin walked backwards trying to get away from it and ran into a solid wall of man. Turning quickly she looked up into Jake’s eyes  as he took a hesitant step backwards. She quickly regained herself and turned back towards Nyx who had a glazed look in her eyes.

“Hey Jake, take care of Kirin here, she seems unable to take care of herself.”

Jake put an arm around Kirin’s shoulders and steered her into an empty chair near the end of the bed then walked over to see what all the ruckus was about. Kirin saw he eye twitch when he looked at the wound then quickly looked away.

“Kirin, I remember you brining me back, but what happened after I blacked out in the Inn’s yard?” Nyx said as she tried not to look at anyone in the room.

“Um… Well not much. You didn’t black out though. Your eyes were opened until you were finally put under in here. You… um… you started screaming and it seemed like the entire town came piling out of their houses from the noise you were making. I kind of lost it for a bit, I’m so sorry. Ravi came running out and he was the one that carried you inside so that he could tend to your wounds. He tried to just straight heal it, but it wasn’t having anything to do with his healing art. It just kept getting worse and worse. So we just cleaned it, stitched it together and hoped that you made it. And you have so far.”

Nyx closed her eyes, and took inventory of her body. There was something drastically wrong with her. She had no idea what it was but it was an uncleanness that she didn’t want to think about lest it cover her mind and taint her soul. She was so screwed.

“Ravi, bind me up nice and tight because I’m getting up. And don’t tell me I can’t because I am. You are not going to stop me.” Nyx gave everyone in the room a look that could shatter stone.

Ravi bound her up, as per her instructions then slowly and carefully aided her in standing up. He figured if she wouldn’t stay down, the least he could do was make sure she didn’t pull another stitch. Kirin handed Nyx her clothes, which she slowly slipped on as soon as her glare got the men out of the room. When she stood she winced, took a step, and cried out. As fast  as a flash Kirin and Jake were both by her side, each holding an arm to help her out of the room. She walked into the common room with a little more grace than she had when she first stood up but as soon as she saw Lance walk through the door her knees let out and she started to fall, had it not been for Jake reaching around her ribs to pull her back up. Lance walked towards her carefully, stopping several feet away and looked at her with eyes full of such sorrow.

“Nyx I’m so sorry. The blade that cut you was not an ordinary blade.”

Nyx rolled her eyes and let out a whistle, “No, I thought it was a perfectly ordinary steel blade that leaves perfectly ordinary cuts that cannot be healed by a healer… I never would have guessed.”

Lance glared at her then said, “Don’t you get it, that blade was poisoned, you’re going to die.”

Nyx stopped dead in her tracks, stared at Lance very closely then walked out of the inn, mumbling something along the lines of, “stupid blade.. *grumble* I’ll kill that sorry son-of-a… grr… I will flog.. pain, lots of pain.”

4DLII Historical reference post

"You're in a hurry." Nyx heard as she walked straight into Kori on her way out the door. Nyx just stared at him for a second, but said nothing and tried to walk around him and continue on her previous path. Kori turned his head following her with his eyes and called to her. Nyx...still did not reply and just kept grumbling and walking away.

Kori furrowed a brow, then decided to pull rank "Captain Nyx of the Shadows Warriors, I demand a report."

Nyx stopped in her tracks then turned and glared at Kori while she spoke, "They're fine Commander Kaze. Captain Kirin can give you a full report if you wish."

"No...I think I want one from you Nyx." Kori demanded as he now noticed her grasping her side and grimacing, "Nyx? What's happened?"

Nyx sighed deeply then spent a few minutes telling Kori what had happened, and what Ravi and Lance now suspected would happen. Kori said nothing but rather wore a perplexed look.

"Commander?" Nyx asked.

"I...I have an idea Nyx." Kori replied, "Come with me a moment." He added as he summoned his dimension-door spell and grabbed Nyx by the arm "satnoM bocaJ" . Moments later, they were gone.

***

Aidan and Kegan both had a very concerned look upon their faces as Mira continued to tell them what Kori and their friends had been going through since Aidan had left. In particular Kori. Aidan remembered being whisked away by the cloaked man, and absorbing the dark magic from Kori as he lay near death in the fog surrounding Tristania. Mira felt it necessary to also tell Aidan that Kori knew she had been there. Mira wasn't exactly sure how he did, but that he did thank Aidan after he came too, much to the disbelief of the people with Kori at that moment.

Mira also told Aidan about Kori taking Tristan's sword and what followed after that, about him being 'killed' by the Aura sword, and about his training within the Dimension-Door spell that Tristan gave to him, and about his return as the Leader of the Shadow Warriors.

"Snow..." Aidan sighed to herself somewhat sad.

"He is perfectly fine now Aidan." Mira said in a reassuring tone, "He just has a few more 'gifts' then he once had."

"So...he can go anywhere, in any time?" Aidan asked as she glanced at Kegan slightly.

"Yes he can, well...almost any time." Mira replied with a smile.

"Oh..."

***

"I wasn't expecting to see you drake." Jake said with a glare as he saw Kori and his companion walk through a D-Door, "actually...how did you find me anyway?"

"Maion's modified spell can take me anywhere remember?"

"Indeed." Jake replied raising an eyebrow, "I'll have to talk to that bloody elf too I suppose."

"As you wish my friend." Kori said with a smirk, "But ..."

"But?" Jake asked now noticing Nyx holding her side in severe pain, "And what's wrong with you?"

Nyx was about to reply when Kori interrupted her quickly, "She is going to die if you don't help her Guardian." Kori said with humble and polite bow

"Is that so?" Jake asked in his ever-sarcastic Kaleism.

"Yes Guardian, it is so." Kori replied bowing once again, "A situation similar to what Kale did for my Mother and Lord Dagonet is required my friend."

"You are joking right?" Jake blasted back, "even if I was capable of doing that...why? Why would I risk that sort of contamination?"

"Simply Guardian..." Kori began, "...to aid in Dekentor's fall."

Jake just glared at Kori and Nyx, and the next thing anyone knew, they were standing in the fields outside Tristania with Tristan looking on very weary and troubled.

"You and your friends." Jake began chastising Tristan, "and you and your bloody gifts to bloody drakes..." he began to add but was interrupted rather quickly.

"That's enough Junior." A sarcastic yet authoritative voice then spoke, "I will handle the bloody elf and his friends, you go and stay with Mira and tell her what's happening, in the event we should not return."

Jake just sighed as Kaleyn Montanue walked of the fog and stood beside Tristan, "Gladly." Jake replied as he vanished rather quickly.

"I remember a conversation like this a very long time ago." Kale said directly to Kori, "Except, it was..."

"Lady Grey..." Kori interrupted.

"Clearly." Kale replied as he then stared at Tristan intensely, "You coming this time you bloody elf, or do I have to do this myself again?"

"I wish I could Guardian." Tristan replied staring at the ground.

"Indeed." Kale replied as he, Kori and Nyx then disappeared...

...Reappearing on the field where Nyx sustained her wound, with only seconds to spare.

***

Jake appeared next to Mira in May's common room. Mira being slightly surprised to see him stood and inquired what was wrong.

"Oh nothing as usual." Jake replied rolling his eyes ever so slightly, "Kale and Tristan are taking that bloody drake back in time to save a friend of his apparently."

"What? Kori?" Aidan said with almost a gasp.

"Yes...Kori," Jake snapped back, "and I see you are up and about well enough now?"

"..."

***

"Alright Nyx." Kori began, "Stay out of sight, you can't have the other you, umm, see you, now as you, umm...Guardian?"

"Just stay here with me." Kale said rolling his eyes, "Kori you go and do what you have too."

"Sure." Kori said as he took off for the treed area Nyx had sustained her wound earlier.

"He sounds just like his Mother." Kale turned and said to Nyx.

"Oh does he? I never knew her actually."

"Clearly not." Kale replied as he saw Kori arriving at his destination.

***

Kori was quick to react, sending the Death Knight, who was swinging his sword at Nyx, flailing backwards with an ice bolt, missing her completely. Kori then turned his attention to the other Knight, and summoned a dusty wind that provided just enough cover to be confusing, and grabbed Nyx quickly and pulled her aside. Seeing Joseph out of the corner of his eye, he raised his hand and sent a concussion bolt that knocked Joseph out cold.  Then turning to his Shadow Warriors, he instructed them to say nothing of his appearance here, and to do as Nyx and Kirin would instruct. The Warriors agreed with a bow, and Kori then quickly explained a few things to Nyx, and vanished back towards Kale and the other Nyx.

"Heh...nice job drake." Kale said with a wide-eyed smile, "He is without a doubt, his Mothers child."

Kale grabbed Nyx and gently held her up with his right arm, with his left arm in the air, he spoke "eb dluohs ti sa llA"

"You're in a hurry." Nyx heard as she walked straight into Kori on her way out the door. Nyx just stared at him blank faced and grabbed her side quickly.

"Kori?" she asked amazed noticing she no longer had the wound on her side, "How did you do that?"

Kori smiled from ear to ear, "Come on" he began, "I'll buy you an ale and tell you all about it." He added as he walked through the doors of the Inn.

"Is that so? Unfortunate. Our Lord was hoping to spring that trap, to great effect."

Ancel brushed past Rouge, and pushed back the flap of his tent, letting in harsh sunlight. Rouge followed him, and stopped beside him so he could look at the rest of the camp. Construction on the obelisk was just about complete, and soon it would be ready for activation.

Surrounding it were the tents for the living soldiers and the few cultists who were left. At the moment, most of those tents were empty, as the humans were going about their daily business. At night, while they slept, the zombies and liches completed their ghastly tasks, unhindered by the light of the sun.

"Lord Ancel... What is he planning?" Rouge asked, pondering.

"What do you mean? You know what his plans are." Ancel replied, with a questioning look on his face.

"I know his plans in the short term, yes, but... Once we wipe out the resistance... Well, what are they supposed to be resisting?"

"Hmm... An interesting question." A voice said from around the corner of the tent. Tear stepped forward, revealing herself to the two.

"Tear. How long have you been there?" Rouge asked.

"Long enough. Regardless, you make an interesting point."

"Point? I made no point. I simply asked a question."

"Yes, and it's very-"

"-interesting, yes, we get it." Ancel growled. "What are you getting at?"

"To start off, I am not privy to our Master's plans any more than you two are. However, I do possess faculties of reason." Both Rouge and Ancel frowned at this, while Tear smirked. "Think about it. We've invested quite a bit of time in that thing." Tear thumbed at the Obelisk rising up in front of them.

"Yeah, we have. And, it's a pretty good idea, too. I'm surprised you were able to design it so quickly." Rouge said, nodding.

"Of course. But, the key is designed. This is our prototype, if you will. If it works the way I expect it will, then I'll bet you anything that he'll ask for dozens of them. If we place them properly, we can cover a lot of ground with them. We can spread our darkness quickly, and effectivly own all the land around them."

"Then, world domination? Is that what you're saying?"

"Eventually. It's a big world. But, he's smart. He's done this before, and he knows that those would-be heroes are his biggest threat."

"What, those handful of individuals are a threat? There would have to be an army of them to pose any serious problem." Ancel snorted at the thought.

"Ancel. They're commanding the largest standing army on the continent in the last 400 years."

"Second largest." Rouge said, snidely.

"Largest living army." Tear corrected herself. "My point still stands. Dekentor must deal with them before he can do anything else."

"Tear! You will address our Lord by his title!"

"It's not likely. Titles are such a bother, really."

"You only say that because of where you-" Rouge started, but was cut off by a sword being pressed to his throat.

"Enough." Tear said, making sure he got the "point". "You will never go there again. Ever."

"Gah, ok, ok... Sheesh." Rough coughed as Tear sheathed her sword once more. She crossed her arms, and glanced at the obelisk.

"We should be ready to fire this thing up within the half hour. I have to make some preperations." She put two fingers in her mouth, and a shrill whistle sounded. In a few moments, a guard came up to them, and gave a quick bow.

"A message, to Lord Dekentor." Tear said quickly. "The obelisk is nearly ready, he will be able to activate it in half an hour. Go, quickly."

The guard nodded, and ran off in the direction of the Dark Lord's tent.

"Will you two be joining us for the... 'dawn' of a new era?" Tear asked, smirking again.

"Ugh, I'm not sure whether I hope that was intentional or not." Rouge groaned.

"Huh? I don't get it." Ancel said, frowning.

"... Never mind. Let's go." Tear turned to walk away, rolling her eyes in the process.

"And, so, that's how I totally destroyed causality and prevented your wound from happening in the first place." Kori joked, laughingly.

"Huh. One question, though. Why can I still remember having it?" Nyx asked, slightly confused.

"Hmm... I have no idea. A wizard must have done i-" Kori was interrupted by a voice coming from the inn's front door.

"Kori! Come quick!"

Kori and Nyx both turned to see Kristen quickly walking to them.

"Kristen, what's up?" Nyx asked, twisting in her seat to face the dragon knight.

"Nyx?! What are you doing up!" Kristen demanded, knowing only that she was hurt last she checked.

"It's... a long story. But, Kori... healed me? Sorta?"

"Huh?" Kristen was confused.

"I got some help." Kori said, slyly. "But, the story can wait. What's going on?"

"Oh, yeah! Come outside, quickly! No one told me we were expecting an eclipse!" Kristen was already halfway to the door as she said this.

"Huh? But, we aren't. There isn't an eclipse." Kori said, taking his turn at confusion.

"What?"

"Kristen, you should know this by now, since you've been riding Crystal for so long. All drakes hold celebrations on eclipses. And, I can tell you that there is... should not be an eclipse right now."

"... Then, you may want to come outside."

Nyx and Kori followed Kristen outside into the twilight. The first thing they saw was that everyone had stopped doing everything, and they were all looking up. Kori and Nyx followed suit, and sure enough, eclipse.

"This... this isn't possible..."

"I didn't think there was an eclipse either..." Nyx said, quietly. "But...?"

It was now quite dark, almost as dark as night-time, and there was only a faint halo left of the sun.

"Ok, that's not normal." Kristen said. "It never gets this dark, even on an eclipse!"

Unfortunately, many other people also came to the same conclusion. Soon, people began to whisper amongst themselves about "omens" and "gods" and "warnings".

Here and there, lights sprang up as people lit torches, or cast Light spells or what not. One such light came up to the trio, revealing itself to be a spell held by none other than Daemon.

"I don't suppose any of you know what the hell is going on?" He asked, quietly.

"Not a clue." Kori said, frowning.

"That's what I thought. His Majesty would like to see everyone."

Yay, darkness! This idea's been bouncing around in my head for quite some time...

So, this is surely a long time coming huh?  :P  Anyway, this post is completely based on 'Starfire' by DragonForce. If you aren't familiar with the song, look up the lyrics and you'll see what I mean.

And what made me decide to post this now you ask? Hmm...that's easy. My complete disappointment and anger in a friend, I miss the RP and all the fun everyone used to have with it, and honestly...it's time for renewal.

Enjoy.

Kale’s head perked up and he jumped to his feet quickly as he felt the intense magic rush over him.

“Tristan?” he said to no one in particular as he then watched in awe as the body of Jake Montas vanished before his eyes as well.

“No…no...no, this can’t be.” He spoke as he raised his hand and summoned a D-Door, “What the hell is happening.” He added as he stepped through it.

Moments later he arrived in Tristania, in the shrine to be exact, only to see May, Mira, Aidan and Kegan not only teary eyed, but looking like they had just fought a battle to end all battles. There were a few guards lying dead, and a stranger also lying dead, Kale had never seen before.

“What the hell is going on?” he demanded as he then began to feel a slight ‘lack’ of magic, “And what the hell’s happened to the wards Mira?”

“Guardian?” Mira began, “Where the hell were you? Why didn’t you come and help us?”

“Help you? I didn’t even…” Kale began to retort but was cut off by May.

“…you let him die for them Kale. You realize that right?” She blurted out. “And you didn’t even lift a finger to help.”

“What the hell are you people talking about?” He spat back, “Junior…Tristan…what the hell is going on?” He then asked out loud as if expecting them to appear and answer his question.

“They can no longer hear you Guardian.” Mira said teary eyed, “…they will never be able to hear you ever again in fact.”

“…”

“They…left…for Port Lovis with Kori…three days ago…” Aidan began through her own tears, “Then…Dekentor…came…” she continued as Kale then interrupted her.

“Tristan left Tristania?” he said in disbelief, “that’s not possible.”

“He did in fact…”

“Port Lovis.” Kale then shouted as his D-Door appeared.

As he reappeared in Port Lovis, the site now before his eyes was one of total chaos and with the sun shining, and the heavy snow falling, this made actually seeing…that much harder.

With another portal opening behind him, he then heard “Snow?”

“Of course it’s snow.” He said sarcastically as he raised his hood.

“No.” Aidan retorted as she pointed to the top of a small mountain she had never seen before, “It’s ‘Snow’”

As everyone looked, there he was …Kori standing on top of this newly formed ice mountain, holding a sword high in the air as he roared for all to hear as the fire drakes circled around him. Seconds later, he fell to both knees, and plunged the sword he was holding into the ground as he wept.

“pots emit” Kale then commanded, as he looked around still totally confused, “oga syad eerht”

Kale now reappearing just as the moon was beginning to cover the sun; he quickly cast a cloak spell and a damper spell, hid from all eyes around him, and anyone that might be able to sense him, and watched carefully, closely, and with great concentration.

***

Trying to take in all he could, Kale watched as everyone headed for an emergency meeting with King Lance. Following closely and quietly, he began to realize exactly what must have happened in the days to come. Dekentor somehow managed to cast darkness upon the land, and the would be heroes were now devising a plan to stop him, or more specifically, to ‘undo’ what he had done.

“You idiots.” Kale thought to himself as he listened to person after person giving the most ridiculous solutions to the problem now at hand. Then he saw Kori speaking to Lance privately, and in a few moments, he had vanished and reappeared with both Jake and Mira.

A grand plan then began to form.

As Kale listened, he thought to himself that this might actually be able to work, then reality set in, and he thought that since Jake and Tristan were now gone, it must have failed, but yet…the obelisk was gone, and so was the darkness, so it must have succeeded. He then listened closer and tried not to conjure any thoughts of his own…he HAD to know what occurred.

The meeting went long into the night, or…what would have been night if day had actually existed anymore, and time after time Kale wanted to de-cloak and just tell everyone to shut the hell up, and that the plan had failed, and to try something else. BUT…he withheld his emotions and anger and remained quiet to all.

The night came to a close, and having hear Lance and Kori making sure a sentry was posted everywhere, most of the important players in this scheme went to rest. All but Mira, Jake, Kori and Jacob Cùthalion that is.

Hmm…”Kale thought to himself, “I knew you lot had to be behind this.”

“I can’t do this without Aidan.” Kori said lowering his head, “Of all the mages in the land, she is the only one that can withstand the temperatures, and not have to worry about being warm or comfortable.”

“Kori...” Mira began, “She has little magic left my friend, and she…”

“Yes I know Mira, “ Kori interrupted, “But I can channel some to her, and Jacob can channel almost all his to her as well, as he will be needed more with the army then the mages, and that in fact, should be able to keep her going long enough to pull this off.”

“She still has to agree no?” Jake added with a doubt in his voice.

“Indeed.” Mira replied, “We should go to her at once and inform her of the situation.”

“Agreed” Kori said standing, as Jake opened a D-Door, that all walked though, including an undetected Kale.

Moments later, everyone arrived in Tristania.

“Dammit, I just left here.” Kale sighed to himself silently.

May, Kegan, Aidan and Thalaas were sitting having tea when everyone arrived at the door. May answering it, happily invited everyone in, as the looks of confusion and worry were then apparent.

“Kori? What’s with the perpetual darkness?” Aidan asked secretly happy to see him as she shuffled sideways on the couch a bit, “It feels unnatural to me.”

“It is my friend.” Mira answered first as Kori went and squeezed between Kegan and Aidan, “Dekentor has erected some sort of obelisk that is now doing this, and that’s actually why we are here.”

“Aid?” Kori began as he heard Kegan huff a bit, “I think I can bring it down, but I can not do it alone. I, and everyone else, needs your help. I need your power to enhance my own.”

“What? My power?” Aidan replied slightly taken back, “I don’t have any left Kori, and I cant say I actually want it back either.” She added turning her head away.

“Well, Jacob and I are willing to channel some to you, and Jake will bind it to you until after we are finished this mission.”

“Kori…I…I don’t know.” She began, “I don’t want to feel that anymore…I don’t…I don’t know…I…I just cant.”

Kori stood and stared at her half heart broken, and half angered as well, “What do you mean you cant?”

“I mean…I don’t want to feel that power anymore.” She replied, “I’m happy not feeling it anymore.”

“What!?!” he retorted in a huff, “but I need you, and everyone else needs you too. This isn’t about comfort or personal feelings. This is about need, and about life.” He began as Mira placed her arm on his shoulder, and as Kegan stood up and walked between them as well quite angered.

“Kori?” Mira began, “we can not force her Kaze Tatsou Kori.” She added, “She must want to do this, or you know as well as I do, it will fail.”

”So that’s what happened.” Kale said to himself, “bloody angst”

“Kori.” Aidan then said as she too stood up, “I’m afraid Kori. Afraid of what that power will do to me again…afraid of that deep kind of knowledge.”

“Afraid?” Kori said in a huff, “Since when is the fearless Aidan afraid of anything? Since when does she say no to a challenge?”

“Its not the same thing Kori and you know it.”

“No…I don’t know that actually.” Kori said as he walked away from her deeply saddened now, “and where is that witty and playful person I met not so long ago huh? Where has she gone? Where has that fire and zest for life gone? And why…”

“Snow…that’s enough ok?” Kegan interrupted as she held her now upset twin sisters hand compassionately, “She said no, and that’s that.”

“Aidan? “Mira asked somberly, “you do know what this means right? We may not be able to defeat Dekentor if you do not help.”

“Mira…” Aidan replied slightly teary eyed, “You of all people know, you’ve been inside my head…I cant…I just cant anymore.”

Sighing deeply, Mira nodded in agreement, “Yes…I know my friend.”

“Then all is lost now.” Jake said in a very defeated sounding voice, “We can…”

“Verily, that may not be true Guardian.” A voice said interrupting from across the room.

“GAH…You just had to come to the rescue didn’t you, you bloody do-gooder, half-angel bloody stupid elf.” Kale all but screamed out loud, but held his silent composure all the same.

“Maion!” Jake said in slight surprise, “What do you mean my friend?”

“Clearly, what I mean is, I will help if thou wishes it.”

“Yes my friend, that I am well aware of, but…you can do nothing so long as you are bound to this place…I’m sorry.” Jake said again sounding somewhat defeated.

“Indeed…then I shall unbind myself.” Tristan replied with a smile.

“…”

“…”

“…”

“…”

“…”

“…”

"..."

“Kaleyn?” Tristan said looking around as if expecting him to appear.

“What is it Maion?” Mira asked confused, since she did not sense anything at all.

“Curious.” Tristan replied furrowing a brow, “I was certain Kaleyn was here.”

“Turn off thy soul beacon ya bloody elf. You’re going to blow my cover.” Kale said to himself as he glared at his friend unnoticed of course.

“No my friend, he is not here. And actually, now that you mention it, I can’t sense him at all actually.” Mira added somewhat perplexed.

“Indeed.” Tristan said as he looked right in the direction Kale was standing as if he could see him. “Clearly our Guardian doth not wish to be found at this time.”

“Umm, yeah…sure.” Jake said as he looked at Tristan as if he had three heads all of a sudden, “What ever you say you bloody elf.” And then rolled his eyes slightly.

“Jake!” Mira scolded him quickly, then turned her head to look at Tristan, “My Lord, you know you can not unbind that which is bound my friend.”

“No I can not…but Kaze Tatsou Kori can.”

Kori’s jaw nearly hit the ground when he heard this, “I can?”

“He can?” Jake retorted, followed by everyone else in the room.

“Milord, how can I do that?” Kori asked in a very confused way.

“Sit my friend…sit and I shall tell thee of a hidden spell Kaleyn and I hid in that special Dimension Door spell you adore so much.”

“…”

Kale listened for a good 30 minutes as Tristan explained to everyone exactly what he was referring too. As Kale gritted his teeth and couldn’t believe he hadn’t know that’s what that part of the spell was for, he felt his heart slowly breaking as he now realized…what the next few days would hold for everyone, and why…Jake Montas and Tristan Ravenheart were now gone forever.

“For the last time you bloody elf, “ Jake spat, “You know this is a one way trip right? You’ll not return my friend…not ever.”

“Clearly, that fact does not elude me Guardian.”

“Then, I ask you to reconsider this course of action, and let us find another way.”

“There is no other way...” Kori added sadly as he gaze at Aidan, “Not now anyway.”

As Jake, Jacob, and Mira all sighed in unison, Tristan walked over to Aidan and whispered something in her ear that made her smile, then she said thank you, and sat back down on the couch and sipped her tea again.

“What? What did you just promise her you stupid…argh…I have a good mind to de-cloak and smack you where you stand. Argh…”

“Very well then.” Kori said out loud for all to hear, “We should head back to Port Lovis and inform the King of our plan and what we need from him and the rest of the army.”

“Agreed.” Jacob said as he looked at Tristan and then Aidan, “it is that time.”

Having said that, Kori conjured a D-Door, and everyone walked into it except Tristan, he just vanished “We’ll be back just before dawn the morning after next. Have the Guards and the remaining Army from Port Kiris alerted, and tell them it is by the Kings order that they are to be here in Tristania for the next few days.”

“I’ll send word right away.” May replied.

Kori then walked over to Aidan and kissed her on the cheek, then whispered into her ear as well.

“I know” she said with a slight smile.

And with that, Kori walked through the door, closing it as he did. Kale remained for a moment knowing he could get there himself.

“Does everyone whisper to you Aid?” Kegan said in a slight sarcastic way.

“Heh…no, only Snow does normally.”

“And Tristan?” Kegan asked in a sheepish little girl kind a way.

Kale perked up his ears to listen, which is of course why he remained behind to begin with. “Oh, he just promised to ensure Kori’s safe return.”

“I’ll kill him…I swear I will…” And having said that to himself, Kale’s face saddened as he too portaled to Port Lovis.

Only Kori and Jake Cùthalion reappeared in Port Lovis. Then having roused all that were important to be in the know of the plan they had now formulated, they sat and explained in great detail what was to occur the morning after next.

“We just have to hope that Deke doesn’t mount an invasion before then.” Daemon retorted not entirely sure what he had just heard would even work, “and then be ready if he does of course.”

“I can guarantee the Shadow Warriors and Kirin and myself will be ready for anything he throws at us for the time being anyway.” Nyx said sounding confidant in her abilities.

Kirin nodded in agreement.

“I too can have every archer armed with holy arrows within hours as well.” Captain Bellows added with pride.

“And I am certain the Dragoons will be ready as well.” Kristen added. “At least until they are needed to assist Kori and Tristan.

“Tristan…hrmp…you are sure he will be able to do this right?” Daemon asked still sceptical.
As every eye that knew anything about Tristan Ravenheart pierced Daemon where he sat, Daemon glared back and simply said, “What? I had to ask.”

“You arrogant son-of-a-bitch…” Kale said in his head as he listened carefully to everything that was being said. Having arrived moments earlier, he had heard every word Jake and Kori had said. And the more he heard, the more he realized, that watching this play out, was without a doubt one of the hardest and saddest things he had every had to do in his entire existence.

Lance then stood up, slowly looked around at everyone, pondered a few moments, and then decided. “Kori, Commander Cùthalion, everyone…I feel this is our only recourse now. Let’s make it happen my friends.”

“As you wish Sire.” Kori replied with a bow as he nodded to Jake.

“By your leave My King?” Jake said.

“Indeed.” Lance replied.

And with that, Kori and Jake quickly left and Lance turned his head to everyone else.

“Ravi, you have to be ready for a lot of casualties. Can you handle that?”

“I can my King, if I can get Quinn’s assistance, I am sure I will be ready.”

“Quinn’s?” Lance asked slightly perplexed.

“Yes My Lord, I have been instructing her as of late, and she is proving to be a formidable magic user, and has a very broad based bard spell knowledge that will be of great help to me for those injuries not of the superficial kind.”

“Quintessence?” Lance asked.

“I would be glad to help Lance.” She said with a slight blush having realised she addressed the King by his first name, “I can help protect the incoming wounded as well my king.”

“Hahaha…indeed my friend.” Lance replied with a smile that eased Quinn’s embarrassment a bit. “Get yourself a Squad from Captain Bellows to help you do just that ok?”

“Yes King Lance.” She said with a wide-eyed smile. As she stood and walked closer to the Captain. “Shall we Captain?”

“Heh…as you wish.” Captain Bellows laughed, “My Lord?” he then said to Lance with a bow.
“Indeed Captain.” Lance replied smiling, “Oh, and Captain?”

“Yes My Lord?”

“Your best Captain!”

“Understood My Lord.” Captain Bellows replied, as he smiled at Quinn, then the two of them left in haste.

“Everyone else…” Lance then said, “You I do not need to give orders too. You know what must be done, so do it.”

Everyone else nodded and bowed then left the room to go and do just that. Everyone except for Daemon of course.

“And me my liege?”

“Put together a back up plan, one that…” lance paused for a moment, “one that doesn’t interfere with the primary one.”

“You feel this will work don’t you Lance?”

“Yes…I think this is the only way right now.”

“As you wish my liege.” Daemon replied as he too bowed, then left to go do whatever it was Daemon was going to do.

Lance sat with a thud, placed his hands in his face, and spoke softly “By the grace of the Gods, I pray this works.”

“Gods? Hmmph…the Gods had nothing to do with this one I assure you.” Kale said to himself as he followed everyone else outside to watch what was now about to happen.

***

By early the next morning, everything was in place. Kale was standing, still cloaked near Kori. Kale had more then once thought it strange, that Dekentor hadn’t attacked or, otherwise done anything for that matter. Kale surmised, that it was possible that Deke had used quite a lot of energy to do what he had done, or simply, he was waiting for what was now about to happen. For the enemy to come to him first…

“Kori?” Jake Cùthalion asked as he saw Kori speaking to Nyx and Kirin, “Shouldn’t you be going to Tristania now?”

“Yes, I was just about to leave actually.” Kori replied flatly, “I just needed to speak to Nyx and Kirin in private for a moment.”

“Oh ok.” Jake said as the three just stared at him blankly. “Oh…oh of course.” He added as he then beginning to yell orders to the mages as he tried to cover his slight embarrassment.

“Jake?” Nyx shouted to him, “Timing is everything remember?”

“…”

As Jake began to walk away with greater haste, Kirin, Kori and Nyx laughed a bit, then Kori continued to speak to them.

“So remember, when Tristan and I appear, it will be you and the Shadow Warriors that I will look too for my signals. If you are not where I need you to be, or the very least hope you will be, then this may fail.”

“We understand.” Nyx replied, “Kristen and the Dragoons are readying as we speak. They will give us the cover and the chance to do what you wish Kori.” She added with confidence.

“Perfect.” He said as he looked around as if expecting someone to arrive.

“Kori?” Kirin asked, “What is it?”

“I was just expecting our chrono mage friend to be here by now that’s all.” He replied, “I was sure he knew that…” he continued as Jake Montas appeared through a D-Door interrupting him in mid speech.

“Heh…sorry I’m a bit late.” Jake quipped as he tugged at his Armour, “It’s been a while since I wore thing bloody thing, and it’s not as comfortable as I remember it to be.”

“Well, it has been a few hundred years has it not Guardian?”

“…”

“Hahaha…ok, I’m off to Tristania.” Kori said as he inhaled deeply and opened his D-Door, “Make sure Kristen is here when I return.”

“Understood.” Nyx said as she looked around, and headed off towards Kristen’s position.

Kale quickly jumped though, and seconds later, they were standing in the Shrine, with a sad looking May Montas, Aidan and Kegan Dellcaine, Prince Thalaas, and a somber looking Tristan Ravenheart adorning his Armour, and full stretched black wings.

“So, when it returns, I am to place it in the catacombs, and have it sealed there for all time.” May asked Tristan as if questioning herself while she did it.

“Indeed.” Tristan replied, “and it will return.”

“I hope so Maion…I really do.” She said as she lowered her head not sure it actually would.

“Are the Guards and Soldiers outside?” Kori asked hurriedly.

“Yes…Port Kiris sent a whole legion.” Kegan answered for a slow replying May Montas, “It looks like a Military outpost more then a city now.”

“Good.” Kori replied with a smile, “I just hope it’s enough to hold anything off until we finish.”

“I am ready now my friend.” Tristan spoke as he made his wings vanish before everyone’s eyes.

“You are certain Milord?” Kori asked.

“I am certain my friend.”

“As you wish Maion.” Kori replied as he then looked to Kegan and then to Aidan, “You have to hold this place intact till we, umm, I return ok?”

“…” Kale’s heart skipped a beat when he heard that.

“You will return right?” Aidan asked looking at the floor and not actually Kori.

“Only time will tell that story.” Kori answered as he summoned his D-Door.

“Indeed.” Tristan added as he looked directly at Kale, “Only time…”

“You pampas, arrogant …argh…bloody elf.” Kale said in his head, as he was now fully aware that Tristan did see him, or at least sense him standing there.

Kori spoke a few chants, as did Tristan, and seconds later, they entered Kori’s D-Door. Kale was not expecting it to close so fast, and was forced to open his own.

***

Nearby the obelisk, Deke was speaking to Rouge, when he stopped in mid sentence, and bore an unexpected smile upon his face.

“My Lord?” Rouge asked, “What is it My Lord?”

“A lack of something is more like it.” Dekentor replied with a smirk, “Do as I have Commanded, I shall return momentarily.” He added.

“It shall be done my Lord.”

And with that, Deke dark portaled away. Away…to the place he no longer left a magical presence. Tristania.

***

Kori arrived exactly where he had instructed Nyx and Kirin to have Kristen waiting for him. Quickly, he turned to see Kirin and Nyx, and the Shadow Warriors moving into position. He also saw Jake and the mages, and the Dragoons flying cover for them, and getting ready for they’re sortie as well.

“Commander?” Tristan said to Kristen, “If I might borrow Commander Rom’s weapon please?”

Kristen did not hesitate to give the ‘aura’ sword to him. “Of course.” She said with a slight bow of her head.

“Kristen…it’s time.” Kori commanded as he and Tristan returned to the D-Door. Kristen grabbed her Spear, got on Crystal, and began shouting orders. As Kori’s D-Door closed, Kale walked out from his own, just as the fire drakes were lighting up the sky.

“may the Gods have mercy…”

What Kale saw in the next few minutes, impressed even him. But as he thought about what it would be like when he returned to normal time…he began to feel the heavy sadness again.

Jake and the mages were lined up along the city side of the field heading towards the obelisk; Commander Cùthalion and every available man at arms were guarding them. The Shadow Warriors were heading straight for the obelisk, and the Dragoons were assaulting the actual tower, lighting up the sky, and attacking the undead that surrounded it, without mercy what so ever.

As King Lance lowered his head to say a silent prayer, Daemon placed his hand upon his shoulder to comfort him. Daemon refused to leave Lances side, so he stayed with the King.

***

“So…the wards are gone.” Deke said with a smirk, “I think I want my trophies now.”

And with that, he blasted the door off the South Gate, thus alerting every Soldier and Guard in the place, and began his trek for the actual shrine itself.

It didn’t take him long to get there either, and once he was standing in front of the door, he sarcastically knocked, then blasted it with a beam of dark energy.

Inside Aidan and Kegan were quick to grab Thalass and May and search for a good place to hide. They knew, they could not fight this person alone, and figured hiding was the best course of action. Until…well, if more like it, help from Kori and Tristan arrived.

“I’m looking for a set of trophy Wings.” Dekentor said sarcastically, “A set of wings that belong to me.” He added as he began firing off black bolts of energy in random places. One that had almost hit Kegan, must have mustered up some hidden courage, because at that point, she stood up and yelled back at Deke, “Tristan is wearing them you son-of-a-bitch.” She yelled, “And when he gets back from Port Lovis, he is going to kill you, you know that right?”

“What?” Deke replied in anger as he fired off a few more bolts, one of which hit Prince Thalass square in the chest killing him where he lay. “I’ll just have to pluck them from his dead body once again I suppose.” He added as he quickly dark portaled back to the place from where he came.

***

Just outside Port Lovis, a very large, very unusually bright Dimension Door opened. This was everyone’s cue, as it light up the immediate area for all to see. The Shadow Warriors were between it and the obelisk, and half the mages were now facing the D-Door, and the other half the hoards of undead.

“What the …”

As the form of an Ice Drake shot out from it, Kale immediately took notice of its rider. It was Tristan.

“…”

As the mages cast haste upon the flying projectile of elf and drake, the other half cast a mass slow upon the enemy. That didn’t last too long however, as Tear, Rouge and Steven began to dispel it almost as fast as it was being cast. Jake then ordered all mages to haste Kori and Tristan, and he then ran to the ranks of the Shadow Warriors, and took cover for the next part of ‘the plan’

“Are you ready Tristan?” Kori asked in common tongue.

“Indeed my friend.” He replied.

“Very well then.” Kori said, “Hang on…’a thousand winter winds within’” he added as he and Tristan then basically became a very large and very fast moving shard of ice.

“etaluspacne” Jake chanted as Kori and Tristan then appeared to be in two places at once. One…right in front of the other.

At this point Deke reappeared. And taking a second to absorb what was occurring, he then began his onslaught of every, and any non-undead person that came into his view.

Kale watched as the scene became more and more chaotic. And now, as the two flying projectiles closed in on the obelisk, Dekentor and Rouge specifically, took aim at he first target.

As they released they’re dark magic, and the first projectile exploded not 20 feet from the obelisk, the second projectile picked up a hasted Jake Montas, and headed straight for the obelisk at an even faster speed. By the time Deke or Rouge even knew what was happening, Tristan’s ‘arua’ sword had cut Rouge in half, and they crashed into the obelisk at full speed.

Seconds later, a rider less Kori flew around for a second pass, followed by the fire drakes as they assaulted everything on the ground. “ezeef retniw peed” Kori chanted out loud.

Deke, looking around in haste, then noticed the two individuals standing at the base of the obelisk. Seconds later…it began to crack, and started to crumble from the top.

“dlof emit” Jake said, as Tristan’s sword began to glow brightly. Deke ran towards them, as he fired bolt after bolt of dark energy. Tristan absorbed every hit with the sword, and every time, it became duller and duller.

“Quickly Guardian.” He then said as he saw Dekentor now not 30 feet away.

“I’m ready.” Jake replied as he raised his hands towards Deke.

“dlofnu emit” he said, as the obelisk began to crumble behind him, and the sun slowly started to reappear.

“NO!!!!” Deke shouted at them as he stopped and quickly raised his hands above his head “odnu” he then chanted.

“Told you he’d say it.” Jake quipped to Tristan.

“I never doubted you for a second my friend.” Tristan replied as he and Jake then began to glow very brightly.

With Dekes last command, and Jake and Tristan aglow, the remaining part of the obelisk crumbled creating a mountain of ice, and Deke himself began to fade from sight.

“NO!!!” Deke lamented as he faded further, “this can’t be.”

“Oh but it is Deke.” Jake smiled coyly, “This is an illusion, the real obelisk was destroyed two hours ago when you left for Tristania. What you see here is nothing but a cage. Your cage in fact. One you will spend eternity trapped within.” He added as he smiled from ear to ear.

As Dekentor faded into complete nothingness, the sun began to shine brightly, and Kori then landed next to Jake and Tristan.

“Kori” Tristan commanded, “Return this to mine shrine my friend. It will activate a ward that only surrounds the shrine it self, but no longer Tristania.” He said as he passed the ‘aura’ sword to Kori.

“I promise.”

“And now…you must open our door so we can leave as well you bloody drake.” Jake added, “And for the love of the Gods, when Kale finds out, make sure you blame him.” He added as he pointed to Tristan.

“Indeed…” Tristan replied with a smile, as Kori opened the door Jake had told him about earlier that day, and he and Tristan began to walk through.

“Good bye my friend.” Tristan said as he walked through first.

“Later. I’ll tell your Mother to be proud of you.” Jake said as he too walked through the door, and it quickly closed behind them.

Kori now heard cheering, then saw that the remaining undead hoards were retreating followed by the Dragoons and Kristen, but, Steven, and Tear were nowhere to be seen.

Staring down at the sword, he then climbed to the top of the mountain of ice, and held the sword up with pride. A pride, that deep inside, was accompanied by a deep deep sadness. As a tear fell from his eye, he let out a roar that could be heard hundreds of miles away as he fell to both knees, and plunged the sword he was holding into the ground as he wept.

Hearing his roar, several of the firedrakes broke off their pursuit, and began circling the mountain.

Kaleyn decloaked just in time to see his other self leave Aidan and co. Lowering his head, he walked over to where they were now standing.

“That was fast.” Mira said sounding almost astonished, “You just left mere seconds ago.”

“That wasn’t me Mira.” Kale said as he raised his head to look at her, “That was me a few seconds ago.”

“What?” Mira asked as everyone else just looked on dumbfounded, “Hmm…I’ll never understand Chrono Magic ever.”

Just then King Lance, Daemon, And Kristen arrived on horse back with four extra horses.

“We’re going to the mountain Aidan, I saw you arrive, and thought you might want to come as well.” Kristen said with a smile.

“Yes I would actually.” She said with a half smile, “Thank you.”

And with that, the seven riders headed towards the lone warrior atop the mountain of ice, as Kori let out another roar, and brought down another heavy snowfall.

Once they arrived, Kori stood and smiled slightly, but when he saw that Kale was with them, his heart hardened at what he now had to tell him.

Inhaling deeply, Kori raised the sword high in the air again, and yelled. “GUARDIAN!!!”

Kales head looked up with a snap.

Kori then threw the sword towards Kale, who somehow managed to reach up and actually catch it in the air. “He asked that you return this to his shrine Guardian.”

Kale, choking back a tear, glanced at the weapon with pride, them placed it in his cloak and raised his head towards Kori and nodded.

“Aidan Dellcaine” Kori then said. But nothing happened. “Aidan Dellcaine.” He again repeated. Again, nothing happened. Now slightly perplexed, he called for a portal to take him the hundred or so meters to the bottom of the mountain. This one, opened with ease, and he stepped through.

Reappearing at the bottom, he smiled at Mira, Aidan, and Kegan. They turned to bow towards King Lance and Daemon and Kristen.

“Well done Kori.” Lance said with pride in his voice.

“Thank you my king…but at what cost.” Kori replied lowering his head, “ Tristan and Jake…”

“It was their choice Kori.” Kale interrupted, “and if I know that bloody elf, it was all his idea.” He added as he winked slightly at Kori. “one never knows when one might be lurking around to over hear such things now would one.”

Kori stared straight into Kales eyes. “Indeed…one would not know that for certain at all now would one.” He said as he bowed his head towards Kale.

“What are you two talking about?” Mira asked suspiciously.

“Heh…only time will tell that story my friend.” Kale said sheepishly.

“Hey!” Aidan said as she stared at Kale, “Kori said that not too long ago.”

“Yes…I know he did, and he was right then as well.”

“…”

In the weeks following the destruction of the obelisk, life slowly started to resemble normal life again. Kale had returned the ‘aura’ sword to Tristan’s shrine, and thus activating the ward around only the building, Lance had left orders and returned to Port Kiris along with Daemon and most of the army, Kristen and the Dragoons were left to see if they could locate any remaining members of the Kingdom Of Darkness, Nyx and Kirin were left in charge of establishing the local and surrounding area’s new government, Quinn and Ravi had healed and mended all the wounded soldiers and people of Port Lovis (and there were plenty), Aidan and Kegan spent every waking moment getting reacquainted, and Kori, well…he did what Kori does best…anything he wanted too.

Then one fateful morning, Kori heard a rumor about Aidan and went off to see if it was true.

“Kegan?” Kori asked, as he happened to pass her on the street, “Is it true…has Aidan left?”

“Yes snow, its true.” She replied as she wiped a small tear away, “and she didn’t even tell me where she was going either.”

“What?” Kori asked not completely believing her, “I don’t believe she would do that.”

“Look at me Snow.” She said as she held her arms out, “tell me…am I lying to you Snow?”

Kori looked her up and down. Then…sighed sadly. “No…you are not Kegan.”

“But, you just portal to her like you used too right?”

“Aidan Dellcaine.” Kori commanded, but just like the last time he tried, nothing happened. “Apparently not, I haven’t been able to do that since Tristan left it seems.”

“That’s too bad.” Kegan said as she started to walk away, “Let me know if you ever learn how to again ok?”

“Sure.” Kori said as he looked towards the clouds, and thought of his favourite memory of Aidan…

“ Let me go Kaze Tatsou Kori, or I swear to you…”

“Heh…I guess I just did Aid…goodbye.” He said to no one in particular as he wiped a tear from his eye, and ran behind a building to change into his drake form.

“Seconds later, he was flying across the sky roaring as he did.”

“Silly love sick drake.” Kegan said as she pulled a mirror out of her pocket and looked into it. “Have a safe trip Aid, I’ll see you soon ok?”

“Ok Keegs…see you in a few months.” Aidan replied as she too pulled a mirror out of her pocket as well.

“Be careful.” She added, as she placed the mirror back in her pocket, and walked to the closet Inn to grab an ale.
