I make stuff

I decided to make a game tonight. Well, start making a game.



The objective will be to navigate Bat through a maze-like level without getting him killed. Spikes, monsters and puzzles will keep him occupied as he goes along, however. As of right now, I am uncertain of a motive, but I'm sure I'll think of something once I get going.

It's pretty now, and I tweaked the physics a bit since the first demo. If you notice any bugs, let me know.

Download: bat.zip (October 17, 2007)

Controls:
 - Space Bar: Fly
 - Left/Right: Move

Notes:
 - You can only move when you are air borne. Bat's legs are not designed for walking ;)
 - Although you can take damage, there is no death yet. You health will happily plunge forever into the negatives!

Known Bugs:
 - Trying to fly against the ceiling will render you immovable, much like resting on the ground.

Version History:
 - 16/10/07: Initial physics demo. Not much else.
 - 17/10/07: Added slightly better graphics, the concept of health, and added spikes (which deal damage)

I've uploaded a new demo, and added everyone's favourite character to it: Spike Trap! ;)

Thats looks so very cool. And yes, its easy use the controls as well.  I did notice a slight bug though.  If you are flying left along the ceiling and hit an object, then you fly right, it propels you to the top of one of the lower vertical landings :S

Found another bug. If you fly into the life bar and turn to the right, bat gets swallowed by the bar and the game doesn't let you do anything.

EDIT: It only happens in the far upper left corner of the map.

I think I am seeing a trend here as well.  Most of the bugs are at the top of the game screen

I think it might be a good idea if the up arrow also initiated flying, because that seems easier to do.

Also, the damage counter works quite well. 250 and counting!

That would be the same bug as CA reported, just you're using the edge of the screen. The fact that the health bar is there is immaterial

See, if Bat somehow ends up inside a solid object, the game then ejects him backwards (relative to which way he's facing) to get him out of the object. So, if you fly Left into a corner like that, and then turn around, suddenly, his back pixels are inside a solid, and the game ejects him... through the object. in this case, you get thrown off screen, where you can fall for upwards of 2 billion pixels.

I think it might be a good idea if the up arrow also initiated flying, because that seems easier to do.

Also, the damage counter works quite well. 250 and counting!

Just don't park him on a spike, and let the game run >_>
