The Golden Compass
« on: December 03, 2007, 08:21:52 AM »
Hey all, I was wondering if anyone planned on seeing the Golden Compass movie?
I personally have decided not to bother as they've removed all the "religion is bad, lawl" undertones that made the book so good from the movie.
Also, my sister's friend auditioned for the part of the little girl and she got rejected because she didn't look the part, where as the girl who got the part can't act >_> But that's her reason not mine. Mine is the no religiony things.
So what about you guys anyone going to see it?
Or is it already out over there? Any seen it?

I was thinking about seeing it. But I've never read any of the "His Dark Materials" series, so it would be new for me.

I don't really plan on seeing it. Never read the books and it didn't look like my kind of movie anyway.

My sister anti-recommended this to me, citing that the book was bad, and that she has a communal grudge against one of the artists working on the movie.

My sister loved the book, but from the previews it looks just a little*cough* dodgy, so I'll probably skip it and watch something more awesome.

I was planning on seeing this as I've heard the books are brilliant, and we saw a trailer for it in the cinema.

But I've since heard nothing but bad things about this movie from people who've gone to see it. :-\

I find it wierd I had to read that book like 7 years ago when no one knew what it was for school, and it's a movie now. The only good part of the book was armored bears.

Uh, the bears were the ones that put the armor ON.  They're talking bears.

Unless of course you mean that it's really animal cruelty...  Doubt that's what you mean, seeing as it's clearly CGI.

Anyway,  I loved the books but lack of anti-religious stuff is going to annoy me.  My favorite part from the entire series is in the third one, where (LAWL SPOILERS) they accidentally kill god.  Even better, it was right after his power was killed off, too, so that whole section was just purely epic.

Anyway, I'll probably watch the third one just to see what they did with that, but the others I'll leave alone.  Most likely I'll just end up renting them sometime long after they've come out on DVD.

Apparently it didn't quite perform as well as expected, so they might not even continue the trilogy.

I really really liked the books (and you should all go read them...now) but there isn't really much point if you take out the whole religious theme. The girl doesn't really look very good either but you'd have to be pretty horrible not to make armoured bears not look good. It might be like Eragon all over again.

*tear* I thought Eragon was so bad I actually walked out of the theater, not without a little shouting and popcorn throwing before I left though. The books were so good and the movie had SO much potential... *sigh*

I haven't read the books yet, but the movie looked interesting, but I'm afraid to see it if it's going to actually be so bad.
