A man is going the down the stairs. There's a power outage. When the power comes back, the man knows someone has died. Why does he know that?

A man and woman are speeding down an empty county road. Suddenly, the car runs out of gas. The man decides to run to the nearest gas station. He rolls up all the windows and locks the doors, leaving his wife in the car.
When he returns, their is another person in the car, but the wife didn't open the door.
How is this possible?

As for the newest one, is this other person his wife? After all, the wife is another person from the husband's perspective.
