The new bug/cricket thing (blanking on the name.)

It's... uh... explicitly specified in the URL there. FYI.

Edit:  Ah crap.  I'm not sure how I feel about the new music.  Check cavestory.org for it...  I'm on the line about it.  This may end up being one of those things where the original version is a viable alternative to the new one.

Er, where, specifically, is it? I can't find it.

It's playing right on the front page.  Supposedly that's the new theme.

Also I am not very good at names apparantly

Edit:  Seriously, the new Gravekeeper looks like he can't wait to slit your throat.  "Oh, yeah.  You don't see me behind these mushrooms.  Come to froggy."

SCREWED UP AGAIN MY BAD
sorry, the link should have been to cavestory.com.

Edit:  Seriously, that entire post I made there?  Full of fail.  Anyway, that's the official site...  ALSO!  Downloadable backgrounds for the win.

I listened to it for another half hour or so and I really don't think it's bad, but it's not the original.  Upgrading graphics is one thing, remixing every song is pretty different.

On the other hand, there's supposed to be an "old graphics" switch, so there might be an "old music" switch too.  Or maybe it'll be available for 200 Wii points like they did with Megaman 9's downloadable content.

On a closely related note, have any of you folks heard the theory that the reason Nintendo isn't putting Earthbound on the Virtual Console is because the music blatantly rips off several artists and they don't want to re-pick that scab?   :(  I've heard suggestions that they just change the game's music and release it with new tunes, but people don't seem to understand- music is one of the stronger elements of a game.

Sure, occasionally you'll mute it because you forgot your headphones on the plane or whatever, but when it's there, it's changing the experience.  Shitty music can break a game.  Changing a game's music is generally a really bad idea.

Edit:  Also, apparantly the music is now in MIDI.  Really don't know how to feel about this.

Ok, this bugs me. MIDI != General MIDI.

Twilight Princess? MIDI. Paper Mario (original)? MIDI. Super Mario Galaxy? Some MIDI, some not MIDI.

Cave Story (PC version)? MIDI. Not a .mid file, sure, but sequenced none the less.

DuDE!  I can't wait for this.  I hope there is the "Old graphics switch" and the "Old music switch".  I really like the old Cave Story stuff.  And the new curly looks pudgy.

It's out today. Anyone got it yet, did they break anything? Is the music GM bad, just plain bad, or actually nice?

I'd have gotten it... if I had touched my Wii in a while [it's sitting in one of my drawers right now...], and gotten a Wii Points Card to buy it with...

I don't have it (not out here yet) but Giantbomb did a quick look of it - http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-cave-story/17-2234/
Seems you can change both the graphics and the music back to the original style.
