Dragon Kingdom: continued

thats right i finaly did it, after months and months of battiling procrastination, writers block, laziness (see procrastination), and more recently the fact that i moved to toronto, i FINALY got it done (mostly). dont expect good grammer although ive been working on my spelling and on how i present the story so it should be better then i thought it would, a word to the wise though, there is more narration in my story then conversation, mainly due to marco's lack of socialization so im sorry if thigs get confusing. and on the matter of updates... well.. chances are it will be at least as twice as often as Dark Dragon XD *prepaires for enevitable retaliation*

Chapter 1: Back Again

Marco rolled to the side avoiding his attacker’s strike, the man rushed at marco again but he was prepared this time; in one swift movement Marco unsheathed tusaki and swept the mans legs, he fell over and marco stabbed him, he was almost certainly dead. Marco walked over and put his left foot on the back of the body’s neck, a threat to the remaining attackers, the three masked men stood armed and very hesitant, they each took a look at each other before revealing hidden short bows in unison.

“your kidding me…”

marco said in disdain just before leaping for cover, he could hear the twang and thud of arrows as they either bounced or stuck into the tree marco had used as a shield

“damn… these ones are tougher than usual”

Marco could hear the sound of footsteps not too far away, almost as though they were staying the same distance,

“they’re trying to flank me…” Marco laughed slightly “trying… that is…”.

The feeling came naturally now; Marco didn’t even have to think anymore it just happened as if it were a reflex, that same glowing purple aura surrounding Tusaki as it did, the feeling of another sword in hand and the sense of time slowing down even though marco knew that it was only himself speeding up. Marco let out a deep breath and rushed to the unfortunate opponent who chose to flank to his left.

A quick thrust struck down the enemy. Marco quickly looked behind himself, he dropped down on all fours to avoid two chest-height arrows that flew overhead, he was fast but arrows were faster. Marco gathered himself and dashed towards the two others, about half way they released two more arrows which emotionlessly charged Marco at speeds that still made him think twice. Marco slid, avoiding the two arrows and finishing his rush. Before the two had time to escape he dispatched them. Soon all had returned as it once was.

Marco continued along his way through the blue forest, leaves blowing in the summer wind above. A feeling of nostalgia went through Marco’s mind as he walked the barely noticeable path that he himself had walked countless times before. He began to recount the events that took place here ten years ago, the events that bound marco’s fate to its present condition. He could remember both Ruby and Pepti, annoying he had thought at first but that quickly changed as events had progressed, soon Marco came to respect those two. Marco’s thoughts now drifted to his attackers.

“Merc’s for sure,” he thought, “probably promised a huge sum to return Tusaki to their customer…”

they were clearly not revealed to Marco’s abilities lest they get the idea to take it for themselves. Marco paused and reached into his rucksack for some food finding only nothing. He laughed

“forget this, I’m going to sleep” although the sun was high in the sky he had been travelling a far distance and his recent battle had not helped any, he quickly searched for a shaded area and lied down to rest.

the first chapter is much smaller then the next few... i dont plan to continue naming the chapters but i wanna see how far i can go before i stop making sense ^.^ also: im not sure how long i plan for this to be but im assuming its gonna be quite long if i can keep up

and here it is! the "highly" anticipated second chapter!

Chapter 2: Ruined Town of Gal

After an uneventful night Marco continued his journey to Gal, the place of his birth; it was a two day walk that spanned a wide prairie and a relatively large green leafed forest the end of which lay just outside the entrance to Gal. Marco walked up to the entrance, hastily built wooden walls line the perimeter of marco’s old home, off in the distance you could see people moving old rubble from inside the settlement to somewhere out of sight.

Two elven guards clad in plate mail grasped their lances expecting a fight but then quickly relaxed themselves when Marco got close enough to be made out. The guards signaled for the gate to be opened and Marco entered, he felt a little homesick, the first time in a very, very long time in fact, even though this was the location of his hometown it was very different.

Small wooden houses lined the places already cleared away and no one seemed to care what happened more than a mile out of town. He had always felt differently when he was here though he could not explain why.he thought to a year back when he travelled here, a trek which Marco took every year starting seven years ago, he remembered being surprised that people had once again begun to settle there. They were at first apprehensive about trusting marco considering most of them were either exiled or survivors of attacks on other lands but after marco helped them build the first few shelters and told them of  what these ruines ment to him they welcomed him with open arms.

A group of children playfully ran past Marco with one trailing behind, he stared for a moment not realizing that someone had come up from behind him.

“Well! If it isn’t Marco! Why it’s been, what, a year now? How ya been?”

Marco turned around to find a burly, middle aged human smiling behind him. “Hello Raymond, yes it has”.

Raymond Renolds, one of the first people who trusted Marco enough to let him stay.

“Always the reliable one eh? You came back just like you said you would.”

“Of course, this is my home town after all”. Marco looked around although it was his home town, it felt alittle alien to him when he said that.

“Well, you must be tired, come, you can rest at my place” although not really all that tired, Marco willingly obliged. Raymond led Marco to one of the more developed houses; it had at least four rooms including a small storage area.

Raymond opened the door to find an empty house; they both entered, it had been a long time since Marco slept indoors, for free no less, the place looked pretty messy, marco just gave Raymond a quizzical look

“hey, cut me some slack, I’ve been busy…” Raymond looked away embarrassed. Marco put his stuff down by the door and kind of stood around, bored, it was still noon and Marco didn’t like to stand around doing nothing and Raymond noticed this

“you up for a little work?”

“What kind?” Marco responded interested

“we’re building a school; our numbers have been increasing quite a bit recently so it was finally decided as the next best course of action”. Although careful not to show it- Marco was ecstatic his home was finally brimming with life again, it was clear how marco responded.

and there it is, now i gotta make up for the crash i had last week =_=;

and now for the third installment... i THOUGHT i was gonna say something cool but apparently my brain thinks otherwise XD on another note, i just realized now that there is a center button... wish i had known that before>.>

Chapter 3: the past and the present

Work began almost immediately for Marco; Raymond was one of the three foremen so he didn’t get a chance to work with him directly but that was fine with him. The work passed quickly, keeping Marco occupied for the remainder of the day. By the time it was over the main foundation had fully been built and Marco had not a single drop of energy left in him, both Raymond and marco met once again at the house. Marco sat down while Raymond got them some drinks

“So it must feel pretty fulfilling to be helping rebuild your hometown eh?” Raymond said with a satisfied laugh

“yeah…” Marco took a mouthful from his drink as soon as he said that and instantly regretted it; he resisted the urge to cough the contents back up. Raymond smirked at this

“like it? You’d be surprised what we can make with such few supplies around” the cheery attitude continued on through the night.

Next morning just before the two left Raymond remembered something he forgot to ask Marco the last time he was there

“hey, Marco, you said this was your home town before it got destroyed roughly thirty years ago right?”

“And this comes from where?” marco said sarcastically

“I was just thinkin’, now that your old home is being rebuilt, don’t you think it’s a little odd that you don’t want to stay? I mean- if I was in your shoes, id jump at the first chance at a new home here…” he was right of course, but Marco feared that if he stayed for to long the bandits and merc’s that have chased him for nearly the last decade would find out about this place and then once more marco would lose his home

“your right, but I have my reasons… besides… I’m happy just to be here”

“alright but my door is always open just in case” the two left to continue working once more.

Today they got a spot of bad luck with the weather, dark clouds loomed overhead, the wind picked up and soon after a torrential downpour began. Everyone was in a hurry to get to shelter, the winds were strong and begun destroying the smaller houses; Marco found Raymond directing several people to the back of the town. Marco approached Raymond

“where are they going?” he yelled, trying to convey his words over the roar of the storm

“to a shelter in the back, c’mon! Help out!”

“Okay, where is it?”

“near the back by the tree line!” Marco ran about directing as many people as he could find to the shelter. Once all others had made it Raymond Marco and the town guard left as well.

“this is crazy” said Raymond aloud “I’ve never seen weather like this here before”

“it does happen though” marco reminisced

“what?” Raymond said surprised

“this happened before, I remember just before the attack, at least a month, a storm had raged it seems to appear every decade or so; looks like this just isn’t your year, no worries though, it only lasts the night”

“from the way it sounds, there might be nothing left…” the wooden structure creaked as the powerful wind pounded on it. Hours later the wind was barely audible but the building was still creaking, meaning that the wind was still pretty strong,

Marco found Raymond with a bunch of others; they were deciding who should go out and assess the damage. It seemed no one wanted to brave the storm, convenient for Marco as he had his own reasons to take a look.

“I’ll go” he interrupted “I’m used to things like this” Raymond couldn’t vouch for him but he saw no other option

“let him, he lives here as well” the few others huddled together were unsure but eventually agreed. The door swung open with the strength of the wind, and Marco began to slowly make his way around. It was pretty bad; the smaller houses had caved under the strength of the wind and most of the crops were destroyed, it was not looking good.

It took about an hour for Marco to get around the town with the wind slowing him down but it started to clear up a little which was a relief.

“This is bad…” Marco had spotted more destroyed crops and houses “at this rate they won’t make it through winter…”

he noticed something else... it was the foundation of the school they had been building, he didn't notice it at first because it was scatered so far apart; it was a sickening feeling, knowing that all that hard work had bee for naugt

His inspection done, Marco began to make his way back, but, only after he checked up on one more thing. It took only a minute to reach because it was on they way and there it stood, a old tree swaying against the wind as if it was saying to the storm that it will not back down and at its base, a small insignia was carved there.

Marco didn't know where it came from nor what it meant but marco assumed it was some form of religious marker meant to rest lost souls or something; still the feeling was the same, he couldn’t speak, he couldn’t think, not as the memories began to flood in. They made him sad, those memories, no matter how joyful or depressing they were he always just felt sad. But then he noticed something different, right down at the roots little buds were sprouting, they were too small for even the strongest wind to have any effect, it gave marco a good feeling, one he hadn't felt in a long while.

ooooooh obsticle numero uno, i wonder how marco will help all of gal overcome this challenge  ;)

oops, i cant believe i forgot to update... and ive been procrastinating again too >.< i better get my butt in gear if i wanna keep up with the updates

Chapter 4: ominous meeting

It was sudden and almost completely unexpected, a cloaked figure assaulted from behind, Marco was just barely able to avoide the strike; but not completely, Marco could feel the shock of pain on his side and he ignored it, rather then dwelling on that he unsheathed tusaki in defence.

The hell?! ” Marco thought “who the hell is that? It-it couldn’t be… have they found out about this place?

Marco wondered in fear of his home but soon snapped out of it because the cloaked assailant attacked again. It was a dogged assault leaving Marco no time to counter but he stood tall against the blows and waited for his chance.

"There!" He saw it An opening he took full advantage of, marco parried his assailant’s blade and slashed across their chest but he came up short, only hitting the clasp that held the enemy’s cloak on, still, at least now marco would now his opponents appearance.

Then, again catching Marco off guard, the assailant swept one of marco’s feet off the ground and delivered a kick to his chest he was launched a good couple feet away.

“What the hell was THAT?” Marco spoke through coughs, he quickly climbed back to his feet and found that his assailant had discarded the cloak. It was an elven woman, to Marco’s surprise, she was slender with blond hair and had emerald eyes, but the most interesting part about her was the outfit she wore, it was made to blend into the environment rather then protect the wearer.

“an assassin?” he began to worry, “have they finally found out about this place?”. Before marco had a chance to say or do anything the woman’s voice called out first.

“I don’t want to hurt you! Just leave the sword and I’ll let you live” this took marco aback for many reasons, the main one being the simple fact that ANYONE who has ever sought tusaki usually intended to kill him as well. Knowing the weight of his goal marco could only respond by putting up his guard suddenly, another voice rang out from behind,

“hey, you! Stop!” marco looked to see who it was, much to his relief it was a handful of the towns guards that came to see what might have happened to marco. They began to rush the intruder but she was too fast, even with the heavy weather she escaped in mere moments, which was a good thing too because marco was about to black out from the surprisingly deep wound that even he didn’t know he had.

and on the matter of updates... well.. chances are it will be at least as twice as often as Dark Dragon XD

well so much for that, i know i only have myself to blame for this hideous lack of effort and as far as the people (most likely guests) who actually read up to the fourth chapter are concerned, im sorry, a combination of a deteriorating situation in my household and a sudden change in environment (about 4 mounths ago now...) threw me into a short depression in which i did very little of anything (even gaming!). but now that im used to my new environment and things have calmed down alittle i will continue writting this story once more, if only to finish it.

that said its time for the fifth chapter!

Chapter 5: Departure

Two days later, Marco arose from his lengthy nap to find himself indoors; he blinked a couple of times to clear his vision, he was back in the shelter with most of the town’s inhabitants.

Marco tried to get up but his still wounded side refused to let him, he lay back down and beckoned one of the people nearest to him. A woman came to his assistance;

“yes?” she asked

“can you get… a man named… Raymond for me? I must … speak to him” through rough coughs Marco slowly got out his sentence

“sure, I’ll be right back”

“thanks…” Marco knew he had been out for a while, he had to know how things were.

Moments later a worried looking Raymond entered the shelter, he tried to hide it as he got closer but Macro caught this, he  ignored it as he painfully propped himself  against the wall which the bed laid beside.

“it’s good to see you up and about” Raymond greeted him in a cheerful tone

“not quite up but… after a few years…you get used to things like this…”

“makes me wonder what you do for a living”

“wish I could tell ya… hey Ray..” Marco got serious quickly, "I have to know… how’s it looking out there?” Raymond’s face began to look grim.

“it’s not good… over half the homes were destroyed, all the crops and we only have enough stored food to last about a month or two at the most, everyone is doing the best they can to get things back in order but moral is pretty low… just the other day I overheard people talking about leaving it’s looking very bad for us…”

A long moment of silence passed between them Marco was deep in thought trying to his best to think of a way to help, suddenly he had an idea.

“Hey Raymond, I don’t suppose you know how long it’ll take for my wound to heal do you?” slightly confused by Marco’s request Raymond slowly worked out a response

“uhhh… no but I could ask the lady who patched you up… hold on a sec” raymond left the shelter for a moment and then returned

“good news, she said no major areas were hit, it should only take three to four days to fully heal”

“three to four… good that means I can head out now … raymond can you grab my equipment for me?” Marco slowly worked himself to the side of the bed, making sure to put as little pressure as he could on his wound.

Growing ever more confused by Marco’s hurried actions Raymond could only do as asked, he retrieved Marco’s rucksack and tusaki.

“here… but what are you planning on doing?”

“I have an idea… I think I can help but I got to head out now or else too many people might leave before I can do anything”

Raymond got in front of Marco deliberately trying to stop him from going onward.

“ok… before you do anything, your going to explain to me what you mean, and why you think I’m going to let you leave like this”

Marco settled back down and began to explain “I can’t fully explain this to you but… I’ve got friends in high places, I think they can help… help restore this place”

Raymond sat quietly, considering marco’s extremly short explanation while he continued.

“It’s going to take me a while to get there, roughly a week and a half, but if I can get there early enough, I think I can send help before people consider this place a lost cause. That’s why I have to leave”

“but your not going to get very far with that wound on your side” marco scoffed at that “trust me I’ve suffered through worse”

“and what if you get attacked again? How will you defend yourself?”

Marco sighed heavily “it doesn’t matter, if worse comes to worse, I’ll give them whatever they want and continue forwards” he was lying of course but Marco was determined to leave as soon as possible.

For a while Raymond just sat there taking everything Marco said into consideration, finally Raymond responded, oddly enough with a question “so, who’re the people in high places?” Marco began to grin “if I told you, you’d never believe me” “fine, be that way” Marco’s vagueness finally got to Raymond and to his relief Raymond stopped asking questions

Moments later Marco was standing at the town gates with Raymond, using tusaki’s sheath as a makeshift cane, looking back at the town in which they both held an earnest hope.

Raymond looked at Marco “well I guess it’s time for you to go,”

“yea… but I’ll be back… I promise…” Raymond chuckled “yea… I bet…”

“I know I may be asking too much but… Raymond please…. Try and keep as many people here for as long as possible…”

“don’t worry, I will” raymond gave Marco a reassuring grin and silently pushed him onward "now go on... you crazy fool"

with determination in his heart marco treaded forth, later on when it reached dusk, Marco was rummaging through his rucksack looking for something to eat when he found a bottle full of some odd liquid that had a note stuck to it.

the only thing the note said was Gal's finest, Marco opened it and took a whiff, he repulsed at the indescribable yet oddly familiar scent; “shoulda seen that coming…” marco chuckled to himself.

there i FINALLY got the fifth chapter done, i know Marco's extraction from his hometown may seem alittle quick but i had to move things along, to anyone that cares the next post will be in two weeks, mainly because work in this class is pilling up and i dont feel like falling behind again, as well as the fact that learning japanese takes time and effort, the former i have but the latter.... well that where im diverting most of it for the next week lets just say... >.>

Chapter 6: Port Town of Freyr

It took Marco a week to get to his destination, twice as long as usual due to his now healed injury; he yawned, it was night now because of his late arrival.

Marco immediately began to look for an inn, most were full by this time of night. Finally though, Marco found one with its doors open, he entered and saw an old pheon sitting by the desk

“any rooms?” Marco asked. He was used to sleeping outside but even he preferred the luxury of indoor lodging once in a while

“five gold for the night” the pheon responded passively.

Marco reached into his rucksack and passed over 5 coins, the pheon looked them over for a moment then reached under his desk and passed a key back in return

“one floor up, third door on you left, its no luxury suite but it should keep ya cozy”

Marco grabbed the key and nodded in thanks. It was rare that Marco rented a room for the night considering both that he barley works enough for food and much prefers the outdoors.

As Marco prepared for a short rest he took care to hide Tusaki under the mattress on his right side; it wouldn’t be the first time that he has been assaulted while trying to get very much needed sleep.

Inns often made him uncomfortable, mainly due to the lack of a breeze he normally was used to feeling when outside, no matter how hard he tried he just couldn’t get used to it; but Marco could see dark clouds looming in the night sky out the window, it was going to be a bad day tomorrow.

Marco drifted off to sleep, the night passing by like the wind in the plains, until a sudden crack of thunder jolted Marco unto consciousness.

He looked around, a small amount of adrenalin pumping through his head, the window has been banging ever so slightly that Marco had not noticed the storm that was surging, although very mild compared to the last one he had experienced.

Another crack of thunder, nature declaring its dominance

“no time to stop” he thought “I’ll just have to push through this as well”.  it was morning, although you almost couldn't tell through the storm. Marco gathered his things and promptly left the inn,

The storm didn’t bother him much, the rain was trivial at best but it did limit the amount of boats in harbour, which was his destination.

Freyr had grown much since Ruby took the throne ten years ago; Freyr had become the main port that connected the capitol to this side of the Salavian Sea.

Thankfully, the first boat scouted by Marco accepted him and his destination. The ship was a cargo vessel and was not meant for passenger travel so Marco was a little confused when they accepted so easily.

He was told to talk to the captain and so he did, a short walk later and he found the captain’s cabin. Marco knocked lightly and promptly heard

“c’min” Marco entered and found a pheon captain, which was odd because of their partly bird-like form but Marco ignored this.

“waddaya want?” the captain blurted out

“I need to get to the capitol, fast” Marco was quick to the point.

“the capitol eh? ‘n why would ya be headin’ over there?”

“Urgent business with-” marco paused for a moment

“just… really, really important business, ill even be willing to pay you-”

"these are dangerous waters we are sailin’, lotsa pirates nowa days with the increase in trade over that’s few years…” the captain had an observant tone in his voice

“I can handle them” macro replied firmly

“good, then if ya agree to be hired as a temporary guard you can ride free, agreed?”

marco answered without hesitation “deal”

the captain smiled, “good we leave at dusk and will be there by suns’ rise tomorrow, get some rest till then” Marco thanked him and was led to a cabin in the crew quarters.

   ***************************************

“dammit all…” a cloaked figure mutter to itself a stone’s throw away from the boat Marco had boarded,

“he doesn’t plan on making it easy for me does he?” irritably the cloaked being marched off hurriedly to find a means of pursuit.

GAAAAAA! @.@ i can't belive i forgot the post date! i even put it on my calander so i would avoid more procrastination (mind you my calander is in my cell phone) and i warn you: this is a long one

Chapter 7: dangerous waters

Dusk came and with it the beauty of a bright orange sun just off the horizon, the short storm before had provided good winds and the boat was quick to leave port. As time passed night fell and a glittering silver moon bathed the night sky in light, Marco was wandering the main deck, staying ready in case of a sudden attack. He could hear the captain’s voice as he yelled orders to various crew members and how it was repeated by them until its intended destination was reached.

Marco gazed upon the horizon, just off to the north, north east (Marco’s current heading being north) was the silhouette of an island in the distance, he could not recognize it but something seemed strange to him. He concentrated on it for a minute but after failing to under stand what troubled him he put it out of his mind.

Hours passed as the night lazily went on, the silhouette of the island growing ever larger as they passed by, again Marco had a suspicion that something as not as it was; and no sooner did the thought cross his mind when a crew member cried out

“look! By the island! A ship!”

Just about everyone on deck ran towards the edge to try and make out the other ship, and there it was, slowly differentiating itself from the silhouette of the island was another ship.

“Blast…” the captain had suddenly made his way out from his cabin when he heard the commotion

“we were almost there…” only Marco was paying attention to what the captain was saying. Again came a cry from another crewmate

“look! Above the ship!” Marco once again concentrated on the distant ship, he squinted his eyes for a moment and soon was able to make out black dots rising from the ship

pirates” it was all too obvious now to him now, they were under attack. The captain let out a flurry of orders to the crew, they scrambled to their positions like a bunch of panicking mice. The ship turned hard to starboard and began to pick up speed

“I’ll be damned if I let them get a hold of are cargo!” the captain yelled Marco fought the urge to ask him what he meant and braced himself for a hard fight. As the dots got bigger and bigger he began to make out their race and force size, it was not looking good.

Dragorns…. About ten… this is bad… I have a hard enough time taking two or three on even WITH Tusaki … and I doubt this ship’s crew can handle them…

Marco quickly surveyed the crew, there were twenty of them on deck, probably another ten below at most, and they were of all mixed races, Marco knew they wouldn’t stand a chance.

Marco cleared his mind, took a deep breath, and concentrated on the battle ahead; once again Tusaki answered his call, the aura and second blade appeared; he was now prepared for battle.

The dragorn leading the charge noticed Marco and went at him at full speed with an axe held high, landing, the dragorn swung heavily with all the might of gravity at Marco but he dodged it and the axe landed harmlessly in the deck.

Marco struck the dragorns axe hand with the blunt side of one Tusaki breaking a number of fingers, the dragorn cried out in pain and Marco pierced it’s gapping maw with the other one; the dragorn slumped to the ground as Marco retrieved his blade and prepared for more.

Good… the quicker the better… no need to get caught in a drawn out battle

Two more dragorns rushed towards Marco, flanking him on both sides. The dragorn on Marco’s right was lightly armoured and wielded a war hammer with a head that looked as though it was once part of a mountain. The armoured dragorn brought the mighty hammer upwards and then down again in an attempt to crush Marco in one strike, he dodged and planned on stabbing at its unprotected ribs at the side of the armour but was forced to continue evading when the other dragorn began his attack against Marco.

It was un-armoured and wielded a long sword, (which actually seemed much smaller when wielded by those of the dragorn or drago races) it was moving much faster than the other dragorn and was holding Marco back as the other prepared for more attacks.

“so much for quick… guh” Marco grunted and he blocked another blow from the un-armoured dragorn, he had to keep moving but his muscles were already screaming for him to stop but he didn’t listen, he just kept moving, he kept trying to look for an opening. As the twentieth minute passed the final invading dragorn landed and entered the melee, the entire deck was ablaze with combat, and crewmen were being struck down one after another, the situation as Marco predicted, was wildly spinning out of control and he was too busy protecting his life to do anything about it.

As Marco continued to defend himself he was once again put in between his two assailants; once again the un-armoured dragorn began a furious series of strikes as it pushed Marco closer, and closer to the armoured one. It was then the Marco was forced to parry the final strike and roll to the left but much to his surprise the armoured dragorn was already in mid swing when Marco rolled and it’s war hammer only found purchase on its ally which was too close. The dragorn was hit with a crushing blow to the head and dropped to the ground ceasing to move… forever…

“Well... better then nothing” Marco quipped as he stood once more, ready to fight, the armoured dragorn disregarded its fallen ally and re-trained its focus on Marco. Now that it was unprotected buy its more nimble friend Marco would be able to defeat it, they charged at each other as fast as they could, the dragorn tried to knock Marco down with a horizontal sweep but he slid under the weapon, got up and used
Tusaki to stab the dragorns back, though the blade didn’t go far due to the dragorns naturally thick hide.

It howled in anger more so than pain and swung the hammer around to strike him; Marco tried to jump back but the hammer was much longer than was expected and it hit dead center on his left shoulder launching him far from the dragorn.

The pain was overwhelming, it was surely broken, but Marco held onto both blades as best he could, he rose once more to defend himself; with his left arm all but useless he had not a clue as to how he would survive

“this is bad... I can’t move it at all…” Marco tried raising his left arm but it was an effort just to hold the blade. Marco was expecting the attack to continue but he suddenly heard one of the dragorns call out to the others, he couldn’t make out exactly what it said over the din of battle but about five of the eight dragorn remaining on the deck began to hastily made their way to the lower decks, avoiding all the other crewmembers.

Marco looked around the deck and found seven other people on the top deck that were still alive, one of which was the captain, they were under attack by the remaining three dragorn, and they clearly knew they were in a tight spot. Marco began towards them, when the captain saw this he called out

“No! We can handle this! Go and protect the cargo! We cannot let them get to it!” Marco paused for a moment unsure as to whether or not he should comply, after a moments hesitation he nodded and went off across the deck towards the lower levels.

Marco entered the second level, it was the crew quarters he looked around and saw no bodies

“they must be on the lower level securing the cargo” he quickly scanned for the stairs to the next level went on. As Marco climbed down the stairs the sound of battle divided itself from above and below, as he entered the doorway to the cargo hold he found a dead Dragorn with a short sword in its right eye, it seems it was ambushed as it made its way through;

Marco made his way over and entered the hold, just like above it was utter madness, it seems the remaining crew had some luck fighting off the pirates as there were only three remaining, but that’s where their luck ended. It had only been minutes when the fighting started down their by Marco’s count and the cargo crew was already down to half.

Marco was hesitant to continue fighting but he knew that things weren’t going to get any better if he left them to die so he entered the fray anyway. It was a desperate fight but through some divine fortune Marco and the remaining crewmembers pulled off a victory. No lingering will to fight,Marco took rest against one of the cargo bulkheads and spent a moment to observe his surroundings;

it seemed odd why there was even enough room to fight in the cargo room in the first place, but it all made sense when Marco looked upwards. Barrels, many of them, at least forty or fifty all of which were fastened to the cargo roof by nets with nails holding them all in place. One of the crew members saw Marcos confusion.

“it was odd, we suddenly had a request from the capital to transport a dangerous material to the mainland with special orders for it to NEVER come into contact with-“

the crewman was suddenly cut off, not by a person but a sound, a relatively loud thunk and strangely enough not from above but quite the opposite, everyone was quiet, observing the noise. Then the sound began in other areas as well just constantly repeating as if someone was banging on the hull; That’s when one in particularly observant crewman called out

“it’s the librico! We’re under attack by librico!”

The librico were an aggressive bunch, both physically and socially, they were a humanoid species that had features very similar to lobsters; they only cared about their own kind and would attack any others without warning, though it was rare they attacked ships.

“It’s over! We’re doomed for sure now!”

another panicked crewman shouted “jump ship!” the crewman ran but was hit by a claw that finally broke through the hull.

Water was gushing and flowing everywhere now, although slowly several more punctures in the hull supplemented its speed.Marco forced himself to stand once more and yelled: "calm down! if you go above you'll be slaughtered!" this slightly calmed the distressed crewmen

"and what do you expect us to do?! just die here?!" one answered

"no. but i can at least get you up there alive,  just follow me" with what seemed like no other choice, they followed.

Marco was already on his way up to the main deck and was already in the crew quarters with the rest of the crew in tow but was confronted by the dragorn that were left behind on the deck. It was easy for Marco to dispatch them since the halls were far too small for a dragorn to move properly and he was soon past them.

Upon entering the deck Marco noticed the island, which was once a small silhouette, now was a huge figure which they were heading directly for; without a second thought the remaining crew had run for the stern of the ship and leapt off

“no! wait!”

Marco tried to stop them but it was too late, in their panic the crew had forgotten the librico were still in the waters beneath. The ship was losing speed and it was unlikely to make it to shore, Marco looked back at the deck entrance seeing to large oddly shaped figures make their way from it, although the librico weren’t known to board ships it was increasingly apparent they could.

Gotta think fast… ” Marco knew he had not an ounce of fighting spirit left and trying to reach the island by water was not an option either

“crapcrapcrapcrapcrap…”

The two librico were getting closer as more entered the main deck. Marco backed as far as he could away from them as he looked for a tertiary means of escape, the pirate ship which had attacked not too long ago also seemed to be under attack itself and fairing no better.

Suddenly, an overpowering force came forth from the depths of the ship, it cracked like the loudest thunder as the hull of the ship was splintered from stern to bow launching wood in every direction; one by one, but so fast you wouldn’t even notice, the librico were destroyed by the force. Marco took what lead he had and jumped off the bow but upon contact with this force he was immediately rendered unconscious before ever hitting the ground.

*cough* finally... done... gotta.... stop... making... them.... big... *cough, hack*

so it turn out i have the immense ability to fail constantly and not notice it.... basically i thioght the last chapter i posted was chapter 8 which is why i delayed myself from posting the next one but once i was able to pull myself from FFXIII and actually got on a computer i learned otherwise.... in essence: serious fail...

Chapter 8: wolfine island

Everything was dark for a while, everything seemed still… calm… quiet… almost... peaceful... then, a figure appeared from the darkness… it was a man, human, old, probably in his late thirties, he had medium messy black hair, brown eyes and a stern but gentle look to him.

Marco Knew who this was instantly,

“father…” Marco thought, he tried to grasp the image but everything as numb, nothing, not even his voice, would respond to his commands.

then… another image appeared, this one was also human, it was a woman in her early thirties, long flowing brunette hair, and soft amber eyes. She had almost an omniscient look to her kind face.

“Mother...” he thought and tried to grasp again but this time but images faded rapidly and in their place came an extreme sense of heat along with sounds of burning and chaos

“no…” Marco tried to push the feelings away but they only increased in intensity

“no…!”  The harder he tried to escape the more intense it got

“no- stop!” despite all logic he continued his attempts only to fail once more, the feeling swelled

“NO!”

Suddenly everything was bright, too bright Marco’s eyes had trouble adjusting and all he could see was white.

Marco, not realizing he could move instinctively brought a hand to his face; he felt sweat, a lot of it, Marco began to realize he was awake again.

His eyes began to adjust and he looked around he seemed to be in a wooden hut, relatively large with a few holes in the roof letting warm rays of light trickle in. there was also another person… it was a woman, elven woman, he stared for a moment then it struck him

“her?! From before?!” it was the woman who attacked him in Gal.

Marco immediately tried to rise from the ground but a sharp jolt of pain ran through his left shoulder and he fell back to the ground the woman noticed his feeble attempt to get up

“oh… your awake?” sounding as if she didn’t almost kill him only a week and a half ago.

Marco managed to reach a sitting position putting his lucid dream out of mind for now.

“what the heck are you doing here?”  it seemed to marco that the situation wasn’t hostile so he didn’t think it was worth a fight

“I was tailing you… till you blew up”

“wait- what?” the last moments of Marco’s battle were a little fuzzy to him and he couldn’t understand what she meant

“what? You don’t remember? you were on that ship, then were attacked, then your ship headed for this nearby island, then it blew up”

“….”

Marco stayed silent as the memories poured back in, in every vivid detail

"by the way, what the hell was that? I don’t know of any magic that can cause an explosion that big”

“me neither- wait… how do you know about all that?” Marco almost forgot that she was nowhere in sight when the event happened

“now now... why would I want to tell you that?” she responded in a very sly tone “I’d never get my hands on your sword if I gave away all my secrets now would I?”

“speaking of which” Marco thought as he patted at his side to find his sword only to find it had gone. The woman scoffed

“what’s the point in that? Had you not already been imprisoned here I would have taken it”

“what do you mean ‘imprisoned’?” the woman began to look annoyed

“god, for a swordsman you’re pretty slow,-” Marco silently laughed to himself at that remark “-if you haven’t noticed we can’t exactly leave this place” she got up and walked over to the door and banged on it a couple times indicating its unwillingness to budge and the returned. Marco sat there for a while trying to sort out everything then he began to wonder

“waitaminute… a settlement on an island? No…it can’t be… the odds are far too unlikely...” finally letting his curiosity get the better of him he broke the silence and asked “hey you! what ever your name is-”

“call me celesta and you better not forget it!” she interrupted tersely

“whatever, did you get a sight of the people who captured you?” his tone was urgent

“how could I not? Those wolfine are huge”

“wolfine?! Oh crap…” from that thought came a slightly worried look to Marco’s face

“what’s wrong?” celesta noticed this.

“you don’t happen to know what the wolfine do to hostile intruders do you?” Marco’s tone was grim

“ummmm…. Nothing?” celesta began to seem worried as well

“if you somehow manage to escape? Then yes… otherwise, I wouldn’t count on leaving this island alive...” they stayed silent as the grim atmosphere dominated over the two. Once more Marco thought of something that had been gnawing at the back of his mind

“hey yo-…” he stopped himself “I mean Celesta… why is it you didn’t bother to kill me back in Gal?”

“huh? Gal?”Marco had forgotten that most of the world thinks it to be nothing but a ruin

“Gal, it’s the place you attacked, and nearly killed, me in. I must admit that I find it odd that someone who seeks to wield the power of my blade would not go so far as to kill me”

“oh…” celesta’s face showed a tint of reminiscence mixed with sadness “there’s been enough death in this world, if I can, I will achieve my goals through as safe means as possible” this only confused Marco more but it satiated his curiosity for now at least. As day turned to night, not a word passed between the two as they both fell asleep.

well that took longer than i thought it wouldbut at least i finally got it up (>.<) now i got a good two weeks to play FFXIII finish the next chapter

oops, a day late, i gotta remember to keep track of time more efficiently but then again,... hearing about one of your best friends going missing would keep anybody awake... (he's been found by now, thanks for wondering) now on to the chapter!

Chapter 9: a small world

It was morning again and Marco was just waking up; he was tired mainly because he had that nightmare again and it keeped him up most of the night. He yawned and tried to stretch his arms but his left shoulder immediately shot a pain through his body

“auugh… dammit…  *yawn* that’s gonna get annoying real fast”

he propped himself  against the closest wall and sat there. With nothing else to do he just waited… waited and thought.

“hmm… I’m actually surprised she didn’t try to kill me overnight” his pessimism was all to common when it came to dealing with anyone who sought tusaki so this surprising result got him questioning how he should treat this would be enemy.

“still… if she’s not trying to kill me then why-” Marco thought Celesta was sound asleep and thought out loud to try and clear his head…

“it was an accident” celesta cut in moving from her faux sleeping position to a sitting one “you move differently than most swordsmen, I over calculated my position and my strike had gone far too deep, you didn’t seem to notice so I though you would be alright”

Marco tried to avoid looking startled by the fact that she was only waiting for him to say something interesting and not actually sleeping. “I wasn’t, damn near killed me, and what do you mean ‘move differently’?”

“it’s your stance, its like to have no regards whatsoever to your own safety, you’re constantly close in, never backing down and when you do you still put up a fight rather than backing off and reorganizing your defence, it’s like you have no strategy when you fight”

“and you learned all that from one round against me?” he was slightly cynical still

“I know it may not look it but I’ve been in a lot of fights too, it’s not that you don’t have skill, it’s just that it makes you impossible to predict, honestly I think it’s the only reason you almost hit me” Marco liked the sound of that

“that may have been the case this time but I warn you… you should stop seeking my blade now, if only to protect your own life”

“it’s nice of you to worry but that’s not an option for me… though I have been reconsidering how I should go about obtaining your blade”

“oh and just how do you plan to go about that?” Celesta was looking sly now which slightly worried Marco

“hehe… I plan to follow you” she said with a grin

“uhhh… come again?” Marco was dumbfounded and wasn’t sure if she was serious or not

“I figure if I stick around you long enough I might find a chance to harmlessly snatch it away from you, besides, the direct approach sure didn’t work and like you said, I should protect my own life” marco wasn’t sure what to say, she clearly knew he wouldn’t fight her as long as he had no reason too but he didn’t exactly like the idea of a tag-along either.

“and what makes you think I’ll just let you follow me?” he tried to make it sound threatening but he could tell it wasn’t going to work.

“Call it a hunch”

“call it whatever you want… but there is much… MUCH more to this blade than you know…”

“ what is that supposed-” to Marco’s relief the sound of footsteps just outside the small prison ended that conversation topic; it was time to meet his captors. as the door opened, piercing light gleamed through, probably due to the sun shining right in his eyes, and a clearly wolfine figure stepped through, Marco squinted and tried to make out the wolfine’s features but it was not until the door was closed once more that marco had a clear image of the man standing in front of him.

The reaction was almost instant, the second he and marco had laid eyes on each other it was clear that they knew who each were. “

you?!” they said in unison. It was Ephidel Keese… and old ally from before Ruby took rule, although ten years had passed little had changed in his features. But marco had no idea he had landed on the same island from more than ten years ago which confused him, because he even heard directly from ruby herself that the wolfine tribe that was settled here had never returned after the devastation it suffered; a loss Marco understood all too well.

“what the hell are you doing here?!” Marco asked in disbelief

“I could ask you the same question” ephidel retorted “no one is supposed to know about this place”

“I-I didn’t know… until now…”

“well you’re lucky I got here first… the leaders were planning on… well… lets just say the planned on ‘acting first and asking questions later’” it was clear what he meant but marco was still confused

“but what are you doing here, I thought this place was abandoned” he desperately wanted to know

“I guess I have some explaining to do huh? Wait a moment, I’ll get you out of here and explain everything” Ephidel left leaving Marco and Celesta alone

“what was that?” celesta asked

“that guy? His name is Ephidel… he’s a person I used to travel with for reasons I care not to divulge, also… he’s my ticket out of here” finishing that sentence with a grin marco got up and started to pace trying to get his legs used to moving again

“and let me guess, you plan on leaving me here so I can’t follow you?” although she was hiding it, and well for that matter, Marco sensed traces of worry in her voice

“Maybe, and maybe not, we’ll see…” marco’s attention was now once again focused on returning to the capital and not on much else

there done, i particularly like this chapter , i dunno... it just seemed to turn out the right way for me...
im probably going to hold out the next chapter for 4 weeks, the recent... event that occured left me with not time for writing the next chapter and i have a whole bunch of ideas backlogged, i might continue this trend untile i aquire a computer... or a job... whichever comes first... but thta will be decided on the next post
