So, as the topic says, what do you use [as in software, hardware, etc]?
I use MilkyTracker, Renoise, and Famitracker. Yes, I like trackers.

I use the surprisingly non-anvilliscious Anvil Studio to forge my music.

i started with futty loops and reason. after it i tried acid pro soundforge and a little bit of ableton.
today i am working mostly in nuendo and a little bit in a cubase. i am also using m audio audiophile 24/96..pretty cheap soundcard, but powerful in its price range..
